The Flyers won. Good on them. I do not think they played particularly well. The effort was there for sure. They are not very talented though.

Hart had a weird game. Both goals were clunkers but he made a bunch of tough saves. I will chalk it up to not playing in the preseason. I thought the PK was good. PP was ok. The Devils drove play at 5 on 5.

Get used to saying that the other team drove play 5 on 5. That may happen in about every game. I mean, look at this roster. How many guys on this team are going to drive play 5 on 5? Be interesting to see if they get smoked by the Nucks tomorrow cause they have some offensive firepower.

Left, on a pair w/ Seeler.

I don't think York is gonna be a huge point guy either, but he needs to prove that he can actually be an offensive catalyst and play driver. "Attack the game" as Torts says.

Being #1 dman in LHV gives him a chance to show he can do that.

(and Zamula is a better 3LD candidate anyway, w/ his reach and experience)

- Tomahawk

If they have confidence in both, this is also another reason I see Ivan being dealt. That is 4 guys. Only room for 3 and York has made it clear he doesn't want to play the right side. Wonder if the supposed "attitude" with York stems from that at all in any way.

I am just very Leary with Lappy having a diff opinion on York than Torts. They were clearly not on the same page when it comes to York. Hopefully that has changed.

I didn’t ask how many tickets radio stations gave away. I asked how full the building looked to a person who was actually there, preferably a person who isn’t employed by the team.

Standing room only. Was one of the highest games in Wells Fargo history in terms of concessions being sold.

Boosted by 4+ minutes of PP Time. Equal strength he was behind Provy and Sanheim in TOI.

Tony D killing penalties as well. That should be worth while watching in the future to see how that shakes out.

Yep. Any team with adequate goaltending will be guaranteed to keep the Flyers to 2 or less every game.

Hot take there.

His skating on the backend was extremely noticeable. As well, Provy had a very solid game. Someone on Twitter said there was a smattering of Boo’s when they introduced Ellis? Anyone see that?

Didn’t see the game. Looking at the box score only. Playing Braun over 18 minutes is not going to work unless it is on occasion. Recipe for disaster.

He'll make fewer back breaking mistakes in those 18 minutes than Risto would.

York is a defenseman and Hodgson is a forward.

Flyers won’t get smoked very often if Hart plays that way and the effort is there from last night….no it wasn’t perfect by any stretch, but that game was watchable…unlike a whole bunch of games in the last two years. Honestly, I understand the love some have with analytics….but if the Flyers score more goals then the other guys on more nights then not then I might actually start to enjoy watching them play.

Risto hate….even when he’s in the press box. At least your consistent.

I didn't see the game, but I'm actually glad to hear that! I want to see effort cause that has been missing in tons of games the last few years. I don't really care about analytics myself, but this forward group most likely isn't going to dominate play at 5 on 5 very often. They better work hard!

I’m not delusional….they still lack that top end skill….but with that type of effort there is enough guys like TK, Farabee, Provy and even TDA to to get some wins. I’ve been a big proponent of Laczynski for the last few years….nice to see him get healthy and play well…same with Allison and Frost….the opportunity is now there for all these wonderful Hextall draft picks that we were told were part of a top rated farm system….wouldn’t it be nice if some of these guys hit….all be it a little late…and actually make this team a functioning solid team.

I was more looking ahead to the TB game, that could be very ugly.

Can you see York being the player moved?

Not any time soon. What value does he have that will bring anything of substance back?

Frost haters suck it
-Tomahawk

Oh just stop it already! Frost had an OK game, made some mistakes and also capitalized on some opportunities, both set up by a great play by Tanner L! Happy to see him contributing, but there is a reason Frost was not one of the 3 stars of the game and that is because though every goal is important, Frost's game wasn't nearly as good as the games TK and Hart had.

Hart stays healthy and plays like a top 5 goalie, the tank will be finished. Curious to see how it plays out over the next 20 games.

Flyers cashed in on opportunities and got much better goaltending.

Otherwise, the Devils thoroughly outplayed them for much of the game. All the hits and blocks were a function of the Devils having the puck so much.

- Tomahawk

This is just not true! The Flyers had the clear 5 on 5 edge in the 1st period and big in portions of the 2nd and 3rd periods. The Devils had a good push near the end of the 2nd after they got down 3-1, and again the latter part of the 3rd once they got down 4-1, and especially after they pulled their goalie. But 5 on 5 the Flyers IMO were the better team for long stretches of the game.

Why? …in a sad, people are dumb kind of way? He is injured. If not injured, he would be out there playing in a Flyer’s sweater, looking like exactly what we have needed these last few years on defense.

Watched until the 4-1 goal….thought the effort was there. Did get hemmed in quite a bit by the devils, but the structure appeared to hold up much better in comparison to a lot of games last year.
Hart after a leaky first goal settled in, which was great to see. A very positive start to see the guys that we are hoping score actually did.

- landros 2

On that 2nd Devils goal I know Hart was trying to find the puck through the screen, but I think part of the problem is he is on his knees and just couldn't move fast enough. That was a scenario where I would have liked to see Hart stand up a bit more to cover that high corner. Overall, considering Hart didn't play a pre-season game, he made some game changing saves for sure.

Correct on Hodgson and that is just silly to me though yes he will have a short shelf life. Assuming Cam is back soon. Otherwise it is gong to tax the other players as they will have to play more minutes.

Also how did Cates look at Center? I assume that is where he played.

Sucks Zamula has to be paired with Seeler for now. Having him with Braun would clearly be ideal. Both were a -1. Either ones fault on the goal?

- furio16

I don't think so. Both goal against should have been stopped by Hart IMO.
