booing and laughing says a lot about those booing and laughing - Scoob
The only players ever boo’ed should be from the opposing team. I didn’t see it but someone on Twitter made reference to it…I may not of cheered…but booing him? |

I went to the game, as the kid I played tennis with had great seats (right where Scoob likes to sit: just off red line, few rows up, perfect!), - PT21
My preferred seating is first row, 200-level, between the blue lines. Glad you enjoyed your seats.

I went to the game, as the kid I played tennis with had great seats (right where Scoob likes to sit: just off red line, few rows up, perfect!), and it was free (maybe he felt bad for making me run around and badly twist my ankle couple of weeks ago).
In any event, building was packed. When they announced attendance, it was 19k+. I don't remember how much. Crowd was loud, tremendous. buzz. Big cheers for Torts, big cheer whenever Gritty was shown. On the subway, lots of young kids chanting "lets go Flyers"
More obs when I get through the endless sequence of zoom calls. - PT21

Well Ellis gets the last laugh when he collects the $31 mil left on his contract. I just can’t feel sorry for him. - Djapana
Financially he's fine, obviously. He's a hockey player. I feel bad for him that he can't play.

Thanks for saying that. I wanted to say something nice back, but I just imagine he will make me mad with whatever he wants to share later…
We’ll see.

First period, shot attempts 15-10 Devils, scoring chances 9-5 Devils and High danger chances 3-2.
They didn't have an edge in the 2nd or 3rd either. In the 2nd period, shot attempts were 25-11 Devils. Scoring chances 14-6 Devils. High danger chances 5-1 Devils. In the 3rd , shot attempts were 24-7 Devils, scoring chances 13-3 Devils with high danger chances 4-0 in favor of the Devils.
Now in the 3rd period of a game when one team has a significant lead, score effects come into being a factor, but with the clear difference through the entire game, I wouldn't look at that as a reason.
You can put your head in the sand and pretend it's not the case. One game is not a trend but that is not the way you want to play for long term success.
The same thing happened last year in the early season. Flyers outscored their deficiencies for a short period. The Atkinson line was hot early then it all fell apart.
The Flyers won last night because Blackwood had a really poor game. - MJL
While I like stats, the game didnt nearly reflect the stats above, sure the Flyers were pressed and had soft spots, sure the attempts were is the Devils favor but the Flyers appeared to be the more dangerous team. Higher danger chances were less than the goals scored for the Flyers in the 2nd and 3rd, while that is possible, I don't agree. They definitely need the puck more, but this was not a game they were lucky to win, it was game that followed a lot of NHL games, good goal tending, converting on scoring chances, momentum swings and a ton of blocked shots with the defending team protecting the house rather well. I give them full marks for the win, they earned it. Now if that was Tampa or the Panthers, I do believe the score would have been different. The good news is that we will get to see it here shortly.

I like upper deck 1st row dead center behind net philly shoots at twice. Doesn’t matter the arena. Can see whole play develop coming and going. |

This is one of those games that creates illusions because the puck went in the net for the Flyers. Ultimately goals are what counts but the numbers don't lie. The Devils controlled play at 5 on 5 and it wasn't close. The Devils aren't a top team. If they play that same game, the Flyers will lose that game far more than they'll win it. I think there are some positives to take from the game and one game is not a trend. If I was Tortorella I would provide positive reinforcement to the players but behind closed doors I would have concern. The only way the Flyers win consistently playing at that level is if Hart has a Shesterkin like season.

Bullseye 🎯 And with him hurt, and really unperforming when he is healthy. To a 5.1 mill caphit! He is the elephant 🐘 in the room capanchor ⚓️ wise for the flyers now. |

I don't expect them to be good, I don't expect them to win often.
If they put in the effort they put in last night all season, I will be happy.

I agree mostly. Hart should be their best player, he was drafted for that purpose. No, I don't think they will fair well vs better teams playing this way. I watched the game in real time, so I could use to watch it again but with a more critical eye, they earned the win and not just Hart. The formula used to win is not dissimilar from other winning teams in the NHL. You can make a case the Flyers knew who they were and played a game to their skill set. This game does not change how I feel, this will be a bottom 3rd team, they will end up losing a lot of tight games. One thing Torts brands is shot blocking, that in essence is protecting the house and taking away lanes, that is no friend to puck possession but it is the right place to start with this version of the Flyers. |

How full was the building? Not the announced attendance, how empty or full did it look to the eyes of a non team employee in the building. - Shrike
19107 according to Sportnet. And it looked near full to me on a 85 TV. |

I don't want to misread what you're saying here but if you're saying what I think you are with the formula to win is not dissimilar from other winning teams in the NHL. That is not the case. Winning team don't lose the possession battle and scoring chance battle by a wide margin and win.
I'll repeat what I've said numerous times. Defending hockey, shot blocking and everything that comes with it. No matter how well you do it, is losing hockey. Attacking hockey is winning hockey. |
