He's a bad player signed to a terrible contract. Sorry if pointing that out offends you.

No offence taken. It’s your take.

ESPN had the raw possession timer on the screen in the third. It was like ~10:00 Flyers, ~14:00 Devils. The game didn't feel as lopsided as that because the Devils spent most of their zone time dancing/passing around the outside. A better team would have made Hart's night a lot tougher given all that puck time.

And stop assuming that other people aren't watching the games.

But that’s exactly why the stats were not representative of the game, the Devils were doing a lot of nothing. It’s not like Hart had to stand on his head.

That's not true. The Devils racked up 36 scoring chances to the Flyers 14. 11 high danger scoring chances to the Flyers 4. They more than doubled the Flyers in both categories. I think it's fair to say the Devils didn't execute well enough offensively, their goaltender sucked and the Flyers goalie was better. The true value of the numbers is predictive. How will the Flyers fare if that continues. Not well. Games like this happen in the NHL.

This is why I feel like Hart was the #1 star of the game. He won the game for the Flyers.

So you think Hart had to stand on his head last night?

Hart did not have a difficult night and let in a bad goal. He did his job.

I wouldn't say stand on his head. He had to play solidly for the Flyers to win. More importantly and this is the key. If the Flyers continue to play that way, he will have to stand on his head game after game for the Flyers to have a chance to win. That is the point.

Wasn't as bad as the stats? Yes.

But jd250 was not only taking issue with me saying that the Devils carried play for most of the night, he's actually saying the Flyers outplayed them, lol.

Post-game, Torts, TK and Frost all said the team lost their way in the 2nd. The third period was a bit more closely contested, but not by much. The first was pretty even, but they gave the Devils a bunch of PP time.

Nice to win, but as Torts likes to say, there's a lot of work left to be done.

Spending that much time defending is not being a hard to play against team. Defending wears a team down. Mentally and physically.
- MJL

Of course, defensive game is not a best energy expenditure strategy. But Flyers are not a possession team yet, and while they are getting to be possession team , bending and breaking works.

I thought the Flyers were playing really well in the first 10 minutes, didn’t like the penalty call on Tippett. Have to factor in that they had a two goal lead halfway through the second. Jersey had the territorial advantage but really didn’t test Hart much.

Shocked not Hodgson as Torts was saddled with him and J Cates earned a spot.
- furio16

I don't think Hodgson's an NHL player so I am too a little but I think it's a numbers game until some players return.

agree with this, just never felt when NJ had the puck it was a real threat. The Flyer goals were good goals. Yes Tk's were from distance but well placed shots with screens, his first was great use of the D as a screen, with low well place wrist shot. Frost first goal was a nice break up in the neutral zone, a good entry by frost, good keep on the wall by Jvr and nice pass by Tanner L, with a really good shot by Frost. Point being, never felt that kind of work from the Devils.

TKs first goal was a goal scorers goal. Frosts was a point blank quick shot in the right spot too. Flyers scored some good goals.

Tippet had more ice time and he was knocked out in the first period. Torts stapled Hodgson to the bench.

my 14 yelled O no as it was happening, he just assumes Allison will have something happen. Hope he stays healthy, he is a player but you saw him crash into some Devils on the boards, breaks up the play but you knew both players were going down.

He made more than a few tough saves and was solid. I rewatched the game this morning and he put a stop to more than a few tough sequences. He didn't have to "stand on his head" but he controlled rebounds well and swallowed up more than a few good chances to get faceoffs when the team really needed them.

I kind of expect an injury every time he collides or runs into something.

First goal wasn't good. Provy bailed him out on another. I think he got stronger as the game went along.
