What's the old saying? Don't count your chickens before they hatch?
Just a few short years ago we had the Four Horsemen - Joki, Boqvist, Beaudin, Mitchell. Two are gone via trade, one buried in the minors, and one still has to prove himself in the NHL. Some of the above eight will experience the same fates.

Blackhawks have never had the quantity and quality in prospects that we have this.season. I recall all the "B" last name guys - Bolland, Brower, Bickell - but so many duds like the Russians, Skille, A Bennett, Sanipass to name a few.
I think the input in Rockford with associate coaches meeting and helping prospects,, to the NHL where Richardson represents a real chance for prospects to work out.....is all good. Pretty much a lot bad under Bowman and Colliton recently. |

Here it is, Friday night, and I check in to read some meathead, knuckle dragger crap; but instead I find a reasonable hockey discussion has broken out.

And what if S. Jones plays under Richardson like he played last night? Never mind, the BOD narrative is set in stone. BTW the fancy stats say S. Jones had a pretty good year last year. But it is his fault, he forced Bowman to trade for him, and give him that salary. |

Just a question for all the posters out there. Out of all of the pre-season waiver wire players that were exposed, was there one you thought we should have taken a chance on?
I realize we claimed Tinordi, and I have been happy with him in the first two games.
Was there another defenseman / forward / goalie you think we should have gone for and why?
I was curious if Klim Kostin or Gabriel Vilardi would have been worthy of picking up? - SchwiftyHawk
Villardi never went on waivers. He had a fantastic camp and made the team. Why would KD look to the waiver wire, when he put his better prospects (ie Reichel) in Rockford. He isn’t looking to improve the team. KD would be very happy if the Hawks show competence but still lose. |

You’re not wrong.
However, the Hawks now have GM who shows patience in developing prospects. It’s still no guarantee that any of these guys develop into NHLers, but the odds are better. |

Could have sworn I saw his name on the waiver wire, good pickup. Thanks for picking that up and correcting me. Probably just wishful thinking on my part!
My though was they might take a flier on one of these former first rounders who has high potential, but just hasn't made their current NHL team yet. Possibly a change of scenery or a different system, might spark something and being kept up all year at the NHL level and working with them. The upside of a player like that would be higher than Khaira or a Reese Johnson.
Never thought they would be a game breaker that would cause them to win too many games.
Just thought it might be a worthwhile risk in a throw away year.

I like KD stockpiling these compete forwards and most of them skate well which is important. I have been saying fir a couple years that the NHL Blackhawks might turnnout having hard to play against bottom six, even Lines 2-4. I have also been dreaming that the blueline crew would become a deep skilled puck moving group. That along with the forwards he has targeted now seems to be KD's objectives
I would like to see how far up the lines NHL level the Notre Dame kid and Slavin could move. Probably could be used in #2 line but more suited for bottom lines. Teply ....if only he could skate better. Reichel has been able to make plays and score in lower leagues and I expect he will eventually contribute as a solid second line offensive player. He is only 20 and he has worked out.to become stronger. Wiz said he needs another year development. I concur.
My way of thinking is to try darn hard to move any picks or players for higher picks. Only because it is all about acquiring top end talent. That talent comes most logical and appropriately with the tier I entry draft choices.
It may.very well be too difficult to trade up to the earliest round one selections. But where else do you acquire top end talent to replace a Kane, Toews, DeBrincat. You may eventually sign a free agent but don't count on it. Drafting lots of kids is nice to hope you get lucky but realisticly just need to try to have two tier I prospects each draft.
The kid (a center) from Denver imght make the NHL whereas McLaughlin apparently falls short. - jhawk59

KD will become one of the most hated GMs in Blackhawks history for dong the right thing. Maybe more than Pulford or Smith. Bear with him, it is his job to fail to create a winner by failing more than any other team in Blackhawks modern history.
He is putting a team on the ice that is tough to lay against, and yet they will have a hard time scoring.
Think of this as post cups punishment, what Stan refused to do. |

Poor Everett - traded for a vet backup goalie for a playoff run, on some stocked teams (not stocked enough to get past any team from the Smythe) --35 ish seasons ago and still copping it. |

I believe those prospects need to make significant jump in development. Except Galvas whom like Regula I forgot. With Galvas I want to see him withstand the physical beating an entire NHL season. I believe that he is capable right now playing NHL
I Phillips needs to take a step defensively like Regula did last season. A streak of nasty or regularly using his siize and strength to pin opponents along boards would be a part of his defensive improvement Phillips is not naturally physical in his defensive performance. A natural athlete whose skating and slapshot are good, he could tease and be included in a trade..Let us see how he develops this season. - jhawk59
I think you will be painfully surprised how few of these names have substantial NHL careers. The numbers and odds say so.

Dach playing RW centered by Monohan and Hoffman the LW. He's on the 2nd unit PP, skated 15:58, took no faceoffs in the loss to DET. The line outshot the opponent 5-3. https://frozenpool.dobber...3&game_type=R&game_num=22 - Mr Ricochet
More surprised by Our good friend Olli Matta leading the Det team in minutes and even scored a (EN) goal. |

They have to win one first BM. I have spotty cell service due to downed Verizon cell towers, and no wi-fi due to Comcast being incompetent. Not many choices down here for internet service, therefore I have not watched any games yet. |
