So you fit him in the cap at the trade deadline, but now he's on your books for the following 2 seasons at $3,850,000 per year. Who has the cap space or desire for that? And Montreal has no space to take a worse contract back. Just run through some potential teams...

I could go on. I feel like this article was conceived with the premise that Allen was still a pending UFA rental and you forgot he signed an extension. Otherwise, why not suggest some other UFAs in 2026. Like maybe Ville Husso, or Anton Forsberg. Good options all around.

This is a serious rebuild and so far it's been impressive.
