No offence but there’s literally no proof of this. It’s not more than a leaf fan’s fantasy. - Dozzer
Dozzer, of course there’s no proof of anything anybody says. It’s all speculation.
The things that I think are more likely than not:
1. McDavid leaves Edmonton. Unless something surprising happens, I just can’t see that team getting good before his contract is up. Coming to Toronto is possible but a stretch. He and Matthews would have to cook something up secretly to take less to make it happen.
2. I think Matthews stays unless things fall apart. Same with Marner.
3. I think JT either signs a deal in the $3-4M range or he retires upstairs |

The leafs can’t afford two $16 million centres (and don’t think Matthews will take less he’s not from this of the continent and leafs aren’t even close to being his favourite team.
So if you think McDavid will bail on Edmonton to go to his favourite team don’t be surprised if Matthews does so as well, maybe not his favourite but something closer to home.
Either of the leafs won’t be able to afford both of them without having the rest of the team be below average (for the majority, not all of them)

I said McDavid coming to Toronto is a stretch but I think he leaves Edmonton unless things turn around there. If Toronto looks like there’s a shot, I think Matthews stays. Winning here trumps winning anywhere else. I’m not sure close to home is an issue to a guy his age. Hockey relevance is what matters. |

Think of all the Ontario boys that never came back. If the team is good, and it is, players want to play here.
I don't think Matthews signs at a league minimum or anything, but I think he really wants to stay here and play with Marner, and those guys will try to make it work to stick it out. |

Well they looked pretty good before that. Juicy rebound, can't do much about that. |

Only leaf fans feel that… Matthews will be entering his late 20s and simply might now want to be this popular anymore… he practically gets no privacy in this city, hence why he doesn’t stick around in the off-season.
I could see losing Matthews but gaining McDavid tbh… I know it’s nothing more than a guess but I could see it happening. If so I wouldn’t complain lol.
Sorry if I come across a bit off today… had two damn grand mal seizures last night and admittedly I feel off today. Needless to say before deleting posts or potentially banning someone (personally only handed out one ban this year so far, a number of deleted posts but I’m trying to be forgiving, some posters are making that difficult tho lol) anyways I will be running it by Cush and Aaron before banning the next couple of days |

Unless at the age 26-27 he decides he wants to head back closer to home. |

Nah, he just said in an interview he loves Toronto and considers it his home. Matthews and Marner are Leafs for life. |

Hockey fans who are adamant that McDavid won’t leave Edmonton are either from Edmonton or have never been to Edmonton. |

Except that they play completely differently. Bunting is more scoring pest like Marchand, Gallagher, etc. |

Yup ..him and Kerfoot went to the same guy ...Dubois wide open out wide.
It was a weird decision by Kerfoot to skate to the middle rather than wide but once he did Sandin had to see that and stay wide but instead he went to the middle too. Fack.
Matthews is getting yippy with all these misses. |
