He usually starts really well. Great so far but still wait and see.
The team came and stepped up tonight. I think that was the big thing. Showing up and paying attention to the details. |

Solid night again for Holl - drexel
Holl was ok, kinda flubs the puck a lot trying to clear causing some scrambly play. I thought Mete was good in the role he was put in, and played some decent shifts with Rielly out for 7 mins. Nothing super special but looked comfortable out there. |

He deserves his due for a good game. The Jets are a tough forechecking team and all of the D were guilty of flubs at times. I actually thought Brodie was the worst if them. Holl played tough minutes and did a good job and I’m not a big Holl fan. |

Good game. Showed some guts. Going to get burned in the playoffs if we have Simmonds and Cliffy taking stupid penalties. |

I think that is the thing there too, really were they even a deterrent? You look at the incidents that happened and it was Reilly, Bunting, etc, the usual guys in the lineup that went in and started dealing with it all. After the fact Simmonds just goes and takes a stupid penalty going after Scheiffele. What was the point of that?
Now Simmonds had a decent game, got creative and generated a goal. But also could have cost us as well.
Clifford I just dunno why he was there.

The teams best players seem to play with much more confidence with them in the lineup then they do without. It's noticeable. |

Was it their presence or was it just expecting a war with the Jets and being mad over their media comments and that dressing room thing? Im not so sure it is because of their presence. Maybe it was. Who really knows.

Hmmm. Valid point. I would think that if it wasn't due to their presence, we would have gotten somewhat of a similar reaction when their coach called them out a couple times, they came out flat after both of those instances and looked as though they were playing looking over their shoulders.
But you're absolutely right, that's just how I interpret it and in the end no one really knows for sure. |

Simmonds was a turnover machine, couldn't carry to save his life, and tends to try to do that instead of chip and chase.
The problem with the Stars and Jets is that their tougher/scrappier players happen to play against our top lines where ours are stapled to the bench most of the time.
I think last night's pushback from Rielly and Bunting had more to do with how much they hate the Jets: it's likely they would've played the same way if 43/24 weren't in the lineup, but Jets might've played dirtier if they weren't.
I don't mind them there if Keefe is happy to shorten the bench when they're not needed. We're usually pretty top heavy in those situations so if Kampf gets some extra reps, I have no problem with him playing up in the lineup. |

He's showing a lot of what he was billed as. Big, smooth and athletic some rebound issues because he prefers kicking it out. Maybe a bottom-10 puck handler. Think he had like 5 bad goals on him in Washington from trying to play back there. Hopefully the new goalie coach is going to his strengths. |

Except one drew blood so it should be an automatic 5 and a game. How Morrissey didn't get tossed for that dirty hit is hard to believe.

I read that they’re working on not having him overreact and get caught out of position. He’s been pretty good at that although there seemed to be maybe one or two times where things got a bit hairy. He’s been solid |

This is pretty much how I see it. Things really boiled over with the Robertson hit. Rielly’s response was immediate. I think they were already pissed about Marner and the Sandin/Spezza episode was likely in everyone’s head as well.

Morrissey has now injured two Leafs with super dirty plays. He injured Matthews with a slew foot and now the hit on Robertson. A short wrestling match with Rielly hardly evens the score.
