Re: Hayes

Remember when Torts was hired and talked about looking forward to coming to Philly to meet with Hayes who 'could be the key guy' or leader or something like that?
Well I think he's seen enough that Hayes ain't getting any C or A. Yes, the team is not good, but Hayes has gotten all the all situation play time any center could dream of, and mostly looks lost. From captain material to not even being good enough to play center.
Please oh please stop putting him out there in overtime.

- therabbi

Is the coach putting Hayes out in OT to embarrass him? OR just a coaching decision I wonder.

Cates and ZM looked ok until paired with Hayes

Is this bottom feeder garbage? Rationalize how Fletcher is still the GM of this dumpster fire.

In the span of a year and six days, Flyers have had losing streaks of:

13 games — 0-10-3 from Dec. 30, 2021-Jan. 25, 2022
10 games — 0-8-2 from Nov. 18-Dec. 8, 2021
8 games — 0-5-3 from Nov. 10-23, 2022
6 games — 0-4-2 from Feb. 9-22, 2022
6 games — 0-6-0 from April 9-19, 2022

Think about how drafting a development works. The previous GM left this organization with 0 prospects. Fletcher has his own flaws but this mess is not solely his. More so on previous GM since most prospects take 3-5 years. Fletcher only has one draft class that could be up

There is no center depth at all in the system. None. 4 -1st rd center fops will kill an organization.

They cant even produce a 4th line center over the last 2 GM's tenure. That is unreal. Poor drafting and development. Yet no wholesale changes across the board in either area.

The pressure that will be on Cutter to make it as a center will be unreal. I hope the organization doesn't just keep him there because of their incompetence. If he is a better winger then keep him at wing.

- furio16

The drafting of centers after Coots has been brutal. I don't think it is a stretch the Flyers have the worst starting centers in the NHL right now.

For his part, Frost pinned the blame for the goal on himself for allowing Kuznetsov to get past him.
-Meltzer

I know Frost took the blame here but after reviewing the replay several times, I don't think Frost did anything wrong on that play. It was a great pass through Provorov but its not like Frost was not on his guy. I think the problem on the play was DeAngelo did not cover the weak side guy (Kuznetsov) who took a nice feed for an easy tap in. Tots did say it was a blown coverage but then after stated it was not just the young guys, so to me that points the blame to Provey and DeAngelo.

And an all too familiar second guess, why oh why do you start Hayes in the OT with Tippet?? Why not Frost and Tippet who are on the same line? Frost is a much better open ice skater than Hayes and can use his speed to generate more offense. Give the kid a chance to swim or sink this year. We know what Hayes is. Unless the goal is to inflate Hayes' points to make him more tradeable?

BTW ... Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Wishing you all a safe and happy time with your families and friends. "Good times, Noodle salad"!

I don't want to say that I think Konecny was "carrying" Hayes' production because that's not fair or quite accurate. But I will say that Hayes' points have masked a lot of so-so play otherwise.
- bmeltzer

Hayes is a dog! He is clearly not bought into Torts' style and I believe Torts has already identified Hayes as one player that is not part of the solution here. I think the Flyers would be best to inflate his stats as much as possible in order to move him. Cover whatever salary you need to, its addition by subtraction IMO.

That’s the only positives I’m getting these days…I see potential in a lot of their group. Really all we can hope for at this point is some of these guys bust through. I think this is why fans clamour for guys like York and Forester….it’s the potential. We already know what a Scott Laughton brings….we already know what Travis Sanheim’s ceiling is.

Yes and the Flyers paid him $50M anyway

The game tying goal was on Frost and Deangelo. Mostly on Frost.

Hayes is a dog, but Boston is going to trade for him with retained salary by the Flyers.

But it is as he had the opportunity to rid himself of the prior GM's players. Instead he has chosen to keep them. Outside of JVR every player has been n brought in or re-signed by Chuck. He completely overvalued what was left for him and is not good enough to realize it.

Remember what he said about the prior GM when he took over?

There is no solution period. Rudderless talent less organization. In terms of players and management.

Are they boosting his value, or just exposing his lack thereof? Might as well take our medicine and let him weigh down our position in the standings until conditions improve.

That’s the thing….if Hextall had left him with absolutely nothing then I could give Fletcher some leeway. But that’s how GMs get jobs for the most part. They replace guys that weren’t doing a good job. Yes there were holes when Fletcher arrived…those holes now are considerably bigger. Fletchers over all performance can be summed up in a quick summation “a comedy of error’s”.

There are solutions….but the Flyers don’t seem inclined to make those hard decisions….they keep digging them selves further and further into bad situations. It’s one bad contract after another.

And it doesn’t matter that Sanheim has shown he can be an ok middle pairing D man…but the contract now makes him a toxic asset that’s way over valued. The Flyers just have way to many of those….

I don’t know about you but I long for the days of Clarke…besides that last year he always kept the Flyers relevant and competitive. They are now neither.
- landros 2

Clarke benefitted from no cap and an owner willing to spend like a drunken sailor. The game and business of hockey has changed, and he has not adjusted....

As much as I dislike him, Brown is our best faceoff center. You start him win the faceoff and swap him out. If he loses he is better defensively than Hayes. Hayes should never start an OT....

He is plugging those holes by what most would consider strong drafting. You can’t build through free agency so you’re incorrect

He definitely has made some bad resignings no doubt. Sanheim & Laughton bad but he has tried to move away from the Hextall mess recently only 2 of the 12 forwards dressed were organizational draft picks so he is clearly waiting til his picks develop & mature to be nhl ready

I don’t see him going anywhere either.
- landros 2

He’s one of several that we can’t get our from under. There’s several layers to the issues and one is probably that he’s slotted incorrectly right now. Despite what he makes, He should be 2c and probably 2pp etc which likely would mean better matchups.

With an entire top 6 forward line out it’s ruined that plan. I don’t think they’d be good enough even with no injuries but it’s insane. What you have to do though is not compound the issue by bringing more contracts in or trading picks for vets. It’s a dumpster fire that can only be fixed by getting rid of the high priced vets for picks but many of these are damaged goods now which we’ll have to pay for another team to take them off our hands. Otherwise, we have to wait out the contracts which will be a while.

I long for the days when the team was relevant as well but we’re here now. I’d love for the team to get an outside perspective when chuck gets canned. An agm from Tampa, colorado or the like who has seen the formula first hand. Which is tear it all down. Bottom out and rebuild through the draft. Problem is it might take 10 years.. is ownership that patient? I think a lot of fans would buy in but there no easy fix here.

Strong drafting my ass. He does not have 1 pick in the NHL from any of his drafts. That is criminal. Can any other GM who has been GM for the last 4 years match that incompetence?

He hasn't drafted any blue chip players, none that have elite level talent or skills.

Darche from Tampa is itching for a promotion and GM job. Flyers probably never have talked to any Tampa management people.
