Leafs had $7.1M in cap playing defence last night. Holl with the biggest hit at $2M. I’d say they got their money’s worth. - Canada Cup
Maybe the ridiculous string of injuries will force our forwards to play at both ends of the ice for a change.

Welp, that's pretty much what I expected. - mjones242
Just over 12 min of ice time, hit and blocked shot, and wasn't on the ice for the goal that counted for the Devils so honestly would say he managed relatively well for being tossed right into all this. Not outstanding or anything but he managed and got the job done.

I think it was having that effect more. Matthews and JT were definitely back in the middle of the ice, and even Willy seemed far more focused on engaging. Didn't see as much of the flyby or blowing the zone.

So at American Thanksgiving the Leafs are fifth overall, and 7th in goals against....having given up 10 more goals than the best team, Boston, in one more game played.
Not bad, considering the goalie and D injuries, really. |

Working through the injuries will be a blessing in the end
We have good defensive depth this year

Have to say we really do have a lot more depth. Benn and Mete along with the Marlies and now Timmins added have us fortunately not relying solely on Marincin here but... even so got to cringe at all the damn injuries. Looks like it is the Leafs turn this year in this regard. |

Better now than later.
I too enjoy the Gio, good bargain acquisition by the Maple Leafs.

They've been on fire. The Leafs have done well to keep them within 7 points and still have a shot at first seed. |

Beyond sad he is gone. This one hits cause grew up watching him. He was just one of those players, he WAS the Leafs.
A King on the ice and off it. He beat those on the ice and he beat ALS and didn't let it take him either. RIP King. |

For my young friends here on Hockeybuzz, be you a Leafs fan or not, wondering why Leafs Nation is extra-emotional about Borje’s passing:
You have no idea the violent crap this dude went through.
Nobody wanted “soft Europeans” in the league, including team owners, players, refs and fans.
Salming took the abuse, kept his dignity, and became an allstar.
And let’s be perfectly clear: the abuse was horrific. The NHL and fans should be embarrassed and ashamed for cheering it on.
Salming deserves to be in the HHOF as a builder for paving the way for Europeans to play in the league. OMG, he paid the price for future players.
And he deserves to be in the HHOF as an honoured player on his own merits - he really was that good.
Thanks for the memories, Borje. |

Yeah, so glad they got that done and he he had that last outpouring of respect. The news of his passing came after the Swedish league games had started so they they all paused at the start f their second periods to pay their respect. |

Not bad at all and thank god for the loser pt. Most teams including the leafs would at .500 or about 1 game above.
Only 4 dominant teams so far that arent propped up a bit by the loser point: bruins, devils, the islanders (back to being good, that will drive some nuts lol) and knights.
Without the loser pt the leafs would be 1 game above .500 and tied for 6th overall in the league (albeit in a league of mostly 1 game over .500 or worse teams) which is still really good considering all their injuries.
Hopefully their attention to playing d doesnt change when we are fully healthy
Keep up the good work
Also, only 20 or so games into the season, mthe impact of the loser pt could decrease....or increase even more. We'll see |

Gio has been the best signing, id hate to see what the d would look without him. Im sure its no coincidence that the d have improved since hes been in the locker room. |
