From last thread, saw you address my good, bad & ugly. I'm too lazy to get it. So we're just not allowed to continue to harp on Trouba, and by relation Gallant because this is just the new norm for Trouba?
I think when it comes to the powerplay, the formula that worked so well last year by basically using powerplay #1 exclusively has got to stop and the kids have to get that 2nd minute more often
the problem with this though is that Adam Fox not tired after only 1 minute and if it's Trouba they go out there with, he can't keep the puck in the offensive zone and that's mostly why powerplay 2 never gets a good chance in the first place
so if they can do some kind of hybrid where Fox has the energy to stay out there with PP2, I think thats best of both worlds
I think Fox is absolutely the best defenseman in the league at keeping the puck in the offensive zone

Ok then. - tomburton99
I didn't say don't harp on him, call him out when warranted. But the fanbase seems to be looking for every reason to criticize him, which has been easy based on his play

Good point Jimbo. Trouba has a harder shot so he generates more rebounds, when he gets it on net, which may be why he also is on. I wonder if Miller gets a shot late. While I would love Fox to stay on, also cognizant of not burning him out.

When I got back I thought his two best games this year were vs Vegas in Vegas and against Colorado in Colorado. Since then he's regressed again. And he's out there far more often now when mistakes are made compared to 23, 55, 4 and 79.

Agreed. He has struggled, no question. Should get a game or two off to heal, if the injury is impacting him, but that seems unlikely to happen.

As long as Trouba is getting 21+ minutes per game and playing like this I will not be able to control myself. His salary, captaincy, minutes/deployment make it difficult to ignore the bad because the bad is really that bad. With that being said, there are positives, of course (just not much from Trouba's corner). We have won 5 in a row, Shesty is on top of his game, the kids are at it again, Schneider's play, etc. Panarin is so close to getting some goals to go with his assists. I'm just not convinced, even with the 5 game streak, this is the best version of this team and there are several players, and one coach, who I think are the root cause for concern.

I dont think this is the final product we go into the month of March with by any means
I'm just not convinced it's gonna be a big guy like Kane or even Horvat

probably multiple additions like last deadline - jimbro83
the only spots open, for forwards, is top 6 RW and one bottom 6 spot maybe. I don't know if the same deadline strategy applies this time around. It might actually be that big splash addition + a Motte type (or just get Motte's ass back here). That top 6 RW spot also hinges on what our plan for Kravtsov is. He can't be here AND we add forwards unless we move out other top 9 forwards, which would be the kids as they are the only ones without NMC. That won't likely happen so, i dont know

you know Motte has been actually really poopty for Ottawa since he started off like gangbusters
Schneider with a three minute shift there - airjan23
2:50, let's not exaggerate.
Could not believe the strength and poise he showed to make that play and move the puck out of the zone after that stretch!! Oh, to be 21 again!!

Same reason why I don't put full stock in the advanced metrics now, but happy with slight improvements. They will supplement to fill holes like last year, which is when they really coalesced and took off

once the Rangers start acting like a team that follows advanced metrics, perhaps I'll put stock in them, but if the Rangers don't seem to care about them I certainly don't
Only joking, Jan.
Was thrilled with Schneider's play last night. And still thinking about the one shift from the Colorado game where 79 and 4 were on together and completely blunted the attack of (I believe) the top line 2 on 2. Great things ahead!!

Nice write up Jan. You didn't really address the performance of Harpur though. This was a really nice debut game for him. Unexpectedly dropped into his first game at MSG wearing blue against one of the hottest teams in the NHL. I thought he did exceptionally well, given the circumstances. He didn't really look out of place ( for a 3rd pairing defender ) and he meshed well with Schneider...
