3ER has a point.

You can be a Broncos and Sabres fan, but there is no way you are as vested in either team ......

People raised in those cities, the teams are part of their roots.
Youre a Fan yes, vested as much, no

- Boss34

Where do you draw the line? TV market? In the NFL that depends a lot on who's playing. For hockey it's certainly more defined. But Southern Ontario would absolutely be in Sabres territory if it was the US. Just like people in Windsor are in Red Wings territory.

You were trying to debate that our run game wasn’t good
That was in direct opposition to what i was saying

Call it what you want

And if you NEVER talk to me again, that’s fine
I’ll be ok

Again, have a good night

- jdfitz77

Nobody ever wants to talk to you to begin with.

Kind of off topic, but the way the NFL is televised in Canada is a bit weird for the afternoon window. The locals (i.e. CTV) essentially have the right to broadcast whatever game they want. Generally, though, they broadcast whatever the local US market is showing so they can black it out on cable. However, if the game is absolute dogpoop, they will break away from that. For instance, normally CTV Toronto will broadcast whatever game Channel 4 or FOX 29 is broadcasting so that they can black out Channel 4 or FOX 29 on Bell and Rogers. I guess they call it "simsubbing". However, I've seen them pick up a different game if the matchup just plain sucks. I guess it causes an uproar during Super Bowl time because they don't get all the actual Super Bowl commercials, or at least it used to be that way a few years ago unless they changed it.

Buffalo is around the 50th biggest market for TV in the US year in year out. If they included actual viewership in southern Ontario for those rankings buffalo would be top 10. 👌

I was on a cruise back when the Bears and Jets were good and in their respective conference championship games and they used CTV to air the game onboard. I always thought that was weird.

All I'm saying is you don't have to live/grow up in the same city that a team is based in to be invested as a fan. Hell, Boss himself doesn't live in Buffalo. it's the Buffalo Sabres, not the Town of Tonawanda Sabres.

There are a lot of variables to that, though. If Southern Ontario were part of the US, Toronto would likely have the NFL team, and for hockey it would be divvied up a bit. Buffalo wouldn't be top 10, but it definitely wouldn't be #54.

That might just be some international TV package deal they get in order to be allowed to show it in foreign waters. I know when you fly overseas, if the airline has a US-based satellite TV package, it goes out once you leave US airspace.

I've always thought pegs was the only Sabres fan , among all leafs fans? Worked with all leafs fans and would rib them?

Led me to believe he's closer to Toronto.
He definitely isnt closer to Denver.

There is no possible way he has the bond or connection to either of these teams that I have for the Sabres and Bill's.

I respect that he's a fan of Denver because his family raised him that way.
Just different fandom levels.

I'm not saying pegs isnt vested. It's just different.
You know this.

I can get home in 18 minutes after a game.

You get this.

I've never bought into the "One of Us" (or not) mentality when it came to rooting for sports franchises. Everyone has their reasons for why they root for their team. Not to say that there aren't bandwagoners, but to Bandit's point, what's the barometer? Living in the TV market? NFL Sunday Ticket has given you the ability to watch any team you damn well please for decades now. There are also more 2nd/3rd generation fans that live outside of Buffalo because their parents moved away before they were born than those live inside this shrinking market itself. Season Ticket Holders? Well, that just narrows it down to thousands.

I lived a 3 minute drive from the arena for years. I could walk home in 15 mins. Does that make me a better fan? Insanely dumb question.

I think the "die-hard fan radius" is actually between 6 and 23 minutes from the arena. Sorry, you just miss out.

I'm not sure if there's a fan barometer.

Season ticket holders are definitely bigger fans than people who pick a team because Dad was from buffalo.

All of my friends that live out of state have kids that are huge Bill's fans. You definitely have a point.

You think pegs is a bigger Broncos fan , then you a Bill's fan?
I doubt it, bet he doesnt travel to road games ☝️

Family moved to Buffalo in 1988, and we lived there until summer 1991, when we had to move again.

Ended up moving 3 more times in the next 5 years, including to northern NJ.

Had no clue what hockey was until we moved to Buffalo.

Fell in love with it after watching a Sabres game in person, and playing street hockey all summer. My brother and I were immediately hooked.

We could sometimes get the Sabres game via radio in northern NJ, if we were lucky and the skies were clear.

It's the only pro sports team I care about.

I wear a Sabres hat everywhere, even during this past decade of misery.

I drove to Buffalo to watch the 4 OT game 6 1-0 70 save shutout victory against the Devils in 1994.

It was like watching an out of body performance, like an alien in goalie gear. He was super human.

Didn't think it was possible to be better at a sport than Hasek was at goaltending.

Am I vested enough?

I'm also fortunate to have a job where I can afford to do so, and have a group of friends willing and able to do so as well. Others don't, and I'm aware of that. I know you met me with my father a couple of years ago, but make no mistake, I had to drag his ass on that trip, and I picked that week because other friends were going too. A lot of things went right for that to happen.

I guess my overall point is I don't really know how big of a fan someone like Pegs is of the Broncos or the Sabres, and no offense to him, I really don't care. We interact with a bunch of people on this site, 99.9% of whom we really don't know (with a few exceptions), for entertainment purposes only. If you're knowledgeable and coherent enough to string together a reasonably well thought-out take on this team, that's good enough for me.
