I also heard or read somewhere last night that for these types of events, they purposely don’t make any kinds of announcements until the emergency vehicles have left the facility, as they don’t want 80,000 people leaving all at once and causing traffic jams that would slow the ambulance. - Atomic Wedgie
There are a lot of things that go into this. Obviously, the health of the player is a concern. Logistics are a concern. Any move the league makes involving the players needs to be okayed by the Union. Even if everyone agrees in principle not to play another down of football, it still takes time to "push the buttons" so to speak.

It wouldn’t be fair to make the on-field official make that call.
Like it or nit, the NFL has to consider a lot of things when cancelling the game.
Have the head ref report on the situation to the NFL war room, and they can factor in all other things before making the call. - Atomic Wedgie
We all knew that the players were never going to leave the field until Hamlin was in the Ambulance and on his way to the hospital, at that point Roger G should sent out a statement postponing the game until further notice. I get that it was an unprecedented situation, however any person with a set of eyes could see all the bills players were shaken to their core. In times of Crisis you need the leader of the NFL to actually LEAD.. He did not an Epic failure IMO

Extremely important game tonight.
The Caps come in hotter than the Sabres, being carried by the greatest goal scorer in history sans his partner in crime, Nick Backstrom, who does, in fact, have a chance to play his first game of the season tonight after off season hip surgery and recent Covid protocol. Let's hope he needs one more tune-up practice.
The Caps get solid goaltending no matter who is in net. Kuemper and Lindgren, while neither will compete with Ullmark for the Vezina, have a legitimate bid for the Jennings though the Bruins tandem may well lock that down too.
I highly doubt the Caps will match OV against Tage's line, which gives Don the ability to put Cozens out against OV's line. Will Cozens be with the kids again, or will they keep the 3rd period switch from last game with Jost?
UPL will no doubt have some heavy OV one timers to handle.

Really not talking about the on-field Head Official. There's always a league official at these games. |

Look, I'm not going to vilify the NFL for going through its process as long as it came to the right decision. We can have the discussion of how there's too much red tape for a situation like this, which, as insensitive as it sounds, is incredibly rare, but there's plenty of time for that later. Whether they took the time to make sure all parties involved were on the same page, or Roger Goodell pulled rank, stepped on a podium and said "I hereby declare the game cancelled" 5 minutes after the ambulance left is irrelevant to me.

Hamlin, the house fire, the Blizzard, 5/14.
We deserve the Lombardi and the Cup. - lacaprup
If you believe in NFL rigging and tampering wanting certain teams to win
The Buffalo Bills after the crazy long season they had so far with injuries and now this.
Would be one heck of a story |

I honestly thought last night he died on the field and the nfl was trying to cover it up by saying he was alive and taken to the hospital.
While the nfl is a massive juggernaut … it would be a bad look if a player died on the field. |

There are probably thousands of theories on what went down. I can't say for certain what happened and why. I just know that organizations don't just make these decisions in a split-second, even in the ones where the conclusion seems obvious. The bigger the organization, the more parties are involved in the decision, and the NFL is huge.

Bad take IMO.
He did just fine.
The Media who has absolutely no idea of what is involved and what consideration must be included are ripping the league out of Ignorance in the true meaning of the word. |

I think he did technically die with no breathing and no pulse...until they applied the defibrillator to him to kick start his heart again.
A short moment or two indeed, but they brought him back from the dead. |

I think they said they were working on him for 9 mins. that a long time to be without a pulse and Oxygen.
I have been praying hard for this Kid... I am usually an optimistic person, but when I see he has a heart beat but can breathe on his own that to me screams brain dead.
I hope and I pray that I am completely wrong, but something about this whole thing just is not sitting well...

You mean can't breath on his own?
I guess it all depends on how long he went without breathing but if they got his heart beating on the field wouldn't that meaning he is breathing again? |

No... Just because he has a heart beat does not mean he can breath on his own. They said as much last night that his heartbeat was back but he could not breath on his own. I am no Dr. But it sounds like brain damage to me. again I hope and pray I am soooooooooooooooooooo wrong....

I had and have the same thought, but I'm no medical expert either.
Prayers for him and his family |

Was hoping we'd hear something positive this morning. Hate to read too much into the little information we have right now.

I would like to think positive but unfortunately you are probably right, after 5 minutes permanent damage(amount unique to each case) and 9-10 minutes very low chance of survival. Its an awful situation. |

I'm taking the "optimistic" route in that the family is keeping things tight. I'm not a doctor either, they do keep people under observation in the ICU even if things improve because they want to do more tests. Until he gets out of critical condition, for better or for worse, we're not going to hear anything of substance. |

I think we see a different team tonight than against Ottawa. Maybe some lineup changes? |
