Optics matter here. The league can't do something that would make them look like monsters.
- Lunaion

the only they do not look like monsters is to give both teams a win

Wasn't a result, just treat it that way.

then you give the chiefs the 1 seed and baltimore no chance to win their division

the nfl is in a no win situation

IMO it'll be a tie/no contest. Which IMO I think is ridiculous as games were played 12 days after 9/11.

Is it the same outcome whether it is declared a tie or no contest?

They really, really are. If they tell the bills they have to play, they are insensitive. If the award a tie, it messes with standings artificially same if they just cancel the game altogether.

that's why I said I only see two options, play or Forfeit. And if I am the Bills I would absolutely Forfeit.

Only other option is to cancel the rest of the season. I HIGHLY doubt that happens...

best case is Hamlin wakes up OK and all the pressure is off. I'll pray again now

yup because the chiefs will have played that extra game so their win percentage will be higher

the only way to have a real number 1 seed and baltimore to have a real legit chance to win the afc north is to finish the game

A tie counts as a half a win and so would improve your win percentage technically speaking. I'm not sure it makes a difference as far as where the Chiefs, Bills and Bengals are at, but theoretically, it could in the standings.

There is also the question: "what precedent do we want to set for the future?". I have no idea what the answer to that question is.

I’d be absolutely fine if the Bills players/coaches decided they didn’t have it in them to play the rest of the season.

I’m simply a fan and last night tore me apart. I have no interest in watching football right now

I think if given time off, the bills would rather finish the game for hamlin vs forfeiting

if they accept a forfeit the result of what happened to hamlin is for nothing

The NFL cannot declare a forfeit unless a team refuses to play.

So the likely scenario is they play week 18 as normal and add another week to finish the game. They can't schedule it for the Thursday after week 18 because all teams in the playoffs require at least a 6 day rest before their next playoff game.

Bills can either decide to not play and take the forfeit or finish the game out, that is of course unless the league declares a no contest to which could cause an uproar with the Ravens should they win this week. My thought is both Taylor and McDermott would agree to a no contest as so would their teams after what happened last night but that is just my personal opinion.

The NFL is really in a very difficult spot here and all I can say is I wouldn't want to be the one to make this decision.

just objectively look at the situation, I think the NFL has no choice but to re-schedule the game. if the bills choose to Forfeit then so be it. I would be fine with it.

when the teams are over .500 the team lowers the win percentage with a tie

I have never seen football players openly sobbing. How many times do you think they have seen a teammate die on the field then have CPR and AED used to bring them back to life? I bet it is traumatizing to those players. I was shook last night and still am and I am just a fan.

chargers are 10-6 and their win percentage is .625
giants are 9--6-1 and their win percentage is ..594
9-7 wound be .562

If they don't have it in them to return this season why would they have it in them to return in 6 months?

I thought they went from 2 weeks to 1 week between title games and super bowl after 9.11
- homiedclown

I think that’s how it went. I think he’s saying the League (and most definitely the host city) doesn’t want to lose the build up hype week before the actual “game week”.

That’s what will probably happen, though.

Right, so the tie did increase the Giants' win percentage by the equivalent of half a win.

If the Chiefs had 4 losses instead of 3, the Bills would benefit with the tie.
