sabres talk from meatballs
"It also seems that the Sabres have been finding answers in goal as well, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen has been able to steal games for the Sabres. So far this season Luukkonen has won seven of his last eight with a .911 save percentage. Granato says that it is the perfect scenario for him to be evolving his game at this level. With UPL playing better and Eric Comrie getting healthier and playing down in Rochester, Granato did not shy away from the idea of keeping three goaltenders on the roster.
“We hope that it continues to be a very tough decision, and it would be today because UPL is playing incredibly well and at some point Comrie will exhaust time that he can be in Rochester by virtue of his veteran status.” Granato said."

if they keep 3 goalies
who is the 13th forward?
who is the 6th and 7th d man when joker comes back
gotta keep Clague over Fitz, right? - homiedclown
Quinn, Peterka, Krebs, Mittelstadt should be rotating out. They all need a few nights from an aerial perspective imo, if they can’t find their groove after that, time to consider sending one away - either in a trade or down to Cha-cha. |

I'll be rocking my EJ #3 jersey at the game Sunday. Can't wait to see the other 10k or so people who made an equally bad jersey decision 10 years ago |

Hank- any chance you could do an investation blog on how SSTT got to be so good? I wanted his ass outta here up until last year. Thought he was terrible.
Now, superstar. I can’t think of any other player that rose from obscurity to becoming a legitimate top 5 player in the NHL.
We know about Ryan O’Timmycrash’s after practice practices, and I’ve always said that for a guy who practices that much, he sucks. Facetiously of course. Maybe he just needs to do all that to be an average NHler now but who knows.
We also know about Eichel’s American Psycho training regimen with his beauty rests and a-hole Shooter McGavib treatment of teammates.
What is TT doing to get so good? His stock handling is outta this world and his shot is something else. But we never hear about how he develops these skills in secret? Inquiring minds want to know. - Da_Cashman
Hank doesn’t need to do any research to answer this question. All one has to do is close their eyes and think “Jimmy Page”.

I missed this comment because the backreading looks about as toxic as Love Canal, but to Cashman's question, I would point him to today's article by Travis Yost
https://www.tsn.ca/yost-t...-buffalo-sabres-1.1901948
It's an unprecedented rise. I, like Travis, would give Granato a ton of credit for moving him to center. I could write a blog about it, but mostly it would be me saying "I still can't believe we live in a world where TT is a top-15 (10?) player in the world."
Anyone who says they saw TT becoming a 60 goal, 100 point 1C must be a precog from Minority Report |

Couple more thoughts on pre-2021 Tage:
- His awareness was terrible (spinorama gif)
- He couldn't control his limbs
- He constantly fired high-and-wide when he wasn't toe-dragging into a defenseman's stick
- He couldn't stay healthy
It's like an alien inhabited his body since then. I don't think anyone has seen anything like this |

I wasn’t complaining. I was just saying he had a good tournament. He didn’t blow the doors off his socket and say. “Hey he is amazing”
Our last Sabres player that did that Mittlestadt raised expectation that he hasn’t met so far being the mvp of the tourney.
Again. Not hating. Just stating |

Chara but super saiyan - 3rd GM's the charm
Was Chara terrible with the Islanders? I first became aware of him when he was with Ottawa and he was good then.
Tage was borderline unplayable for 2 years. Every time I watch him now, I feel like I'm living in a fever dream. He's better than Eichel ever was.
I just tried to search my blog about Tage heading into 21-22 but couldnt find it. Obviously much crow has been eaten. I saw his ceiling as a 15+15 winger and thought it would be terrific if he hit that |

The one thing that Tage always had that made you keep hope was the ability to beat defenders one on one. Not many have that.
Turning into a power forward was the dream, but this is a step beyond that.

Because he lives with 37, 24 and 23. I am dead serious. They won't mess with the vibes and that's why I think Casey isn't going anywhere too. |

I never saw that coming. That toe-drag move worked like 1/10th of the time.
The only path forward that I saw for him was to somehow corral his submachine gun puck-spray style into a semi-consistent rifle shot. He harnessed that along with the unbeatable tall-guy deke move and now here we are. |

Chara was like Flyers Ristolainen when he played for NYI and he looked like they took an NBA draft reject and put him on skates and pushed him onto the ice.
He was dreadful. |

Maybe the lesson is to never doubt the awkward giraffe. Unless he's Tyler Myers. I honestly feel like evaluating Tage is like the end of Burn After Reading:

I'm not saying uncle ion called 60/100, but he did emphasize that taller players need time to grow into their bodies.
Uncle ion being a lanky gentleman himself, discussed a much longer development curve then most around here.
Also, it's pretty much the only thing he's been right about in 3 years 😀 |
