In a now-deleted post on LinkedIn, it was revealed that the event was open to 'participants aged 18 or over, based in the US, who identify as female, Black, Asian/Pacific Islander, Hispanic/Latino, Indigenous, LGBTQIA+, and/or a person with a disability.'

The league changed it to include "everyone" after DeSantis blasted it. Not very "inclusive" of the NHL.

The thing I have an issue with is that nobody is suggesting that Ovechkin needs to stand in front of the Reflecting Pool at the Capitol and openly criticize/denounce Putin.

Not "going after you" on this, for the record....but the argument of the safety of his family/friends back home is easily debunked.

For one, Putin has been openly criticized by a Russian poet/actress and she and her family seem perfectly fine, as far as anyone knows.

And the main point, bringing it back to my initial comment, is not that Ovechkin doesn't publicly trash Putin. It's that he openly and actively supports him. He created "PutinTeam" in support of him for the 2018 Russian presidential "election". His Instagram profile picture is still him and Putin. He's not exactly hiding his blatant support for the guy. Had he just kept his mouth shut and his support private it wouldn't even be a conversation.
