There's things I really like about Trouba (toughness, leadership) and things I don't (Defensive miscues). If his contact wasn't so big, I would still like him on the team as a third pairing and less minutes. Unfortunately that's not possible.

Nothing to save. I explained why I post the analytics. You and Tommy insinuated Gavrikov was good last night. Better than Blais and Lafreniere. I just explained why that is incorrect. The Rangers literally controlled the entire game when he was on the ice. Does that make him bad for rest year? No. The Rest of his career? No. Was he bad last night? Yes.

To me I will always take the analytics with a grain of salt. The reason is that while there are certainly insights to be gained from them, they will always be incomplete. Hockey is a team game. While it is not always a likely situation, it is POSSIBLE for a player to be on the ice for a scoring chance against without actually having done anything that led to said chance. Would that mean throw them out entirely? No. But, I see it as a reason to leave room for skepticism.

Hajek or Jones and the worse pick of our 2 first rounders will be well worth it. Gavrikov is a warrior. On the Columbus team he is first pairing, but with us he will be on the 3rd pairing with Schneider. If anything happened to Lindgren or another of our top 4 D, he could easily slide up. Big upgrade over Harpur and good depth for a long playoff run.

I understand that he will be an UFA at the conclusion of the season. However, depending on his play here with the team, I could see him re-signing in NY so I wouldn't classify him as simply a rental.

I made mention of this couple days ago.

The guy we should go after as a 3rd pairing LD rental is Olli Maatta. Hes a veteran, a 2 time SC champion, more than serviceable to play along side Schneider... and... most importantly, wont cost us a 1st round pick.

I really wanted to see Robertson and Schneider develop along side together. I feel like they could be an awesome pair especially because of how similar their paths have been through juniors, both winning best defensemen in their conferences and now on the Rangers.

To be fair, I do not know if he's ready. What is annoying that the Rangers claimed a guy like Harpur instead of giving Robertson a chance initially. Harpur had stretch where he was fine, which for him, is really good. Not so much lately. So what's the harm in giving Robertson a game? Idk. Just how I think.
