I dont understand the thought process of people thinking they’d make a deal without agreeing on an extension with Kane . If they can’t they don’t make the trade
Kane isn’t a rental for the NYR - Slimtj100
Extension is a horrible idea for a 34 year old player that’s having a significant decline in production right now.
Can’t wait for “but last year he had 92 pts!”
Ya, that was last year, means nothing. |

I cant sell anyone on the idea and it’s fine but don’t say he’s a rental because he wouldnt be. Whether anyone agrees with the extension or not is a whole other thing. I’d take 3 years of Kane (on this current roster) over a lot of guys we could trade for, that’s just me tho. 2 - 3 years ago no way

No, I’m starting to come around on the idea of a 35/36/37 year old Patrick Kane making sense on this roster.
Just kidding, I’m not. |

It’s great how people just project what they want to hear onto things
The two competing arguments, for and against trading for him, are beaten to death |

Here is the Meier rumor rrentz (may be someone else) brought up. Whoever they get, if they’re giving up numerous assets needs to come with an extension
Kane says he’d like that in this article

Problem with Meier is the cap if we wanted to retain him. I don’t think we have any contracts to “dump” that SJ would want in return. Obviously Blais comes to mind but he’s a UFA next year anyway so that doesn’t help next years cap problem. |

Meier seems far fetched to me.
I think Duclair would be ideal where it shouldn’t be overly costly and solves a pressing need. It’s a risk like with anything but you’re only committing to him for just under 2 years. Which has subsequently been shot down aswell |

Not shot down as an idea, shot down at the thought that it would cost us a 1st round pick. |

Two years of a guy is better than one. He did have 30 goals last year. He kind of blossomed imo. Only knock would be the Achilles, but he checks all the boxes of someone we could use
He can play RW which is of the upmost importance |

I say we buyout everyone and sign Sean Avery, to be coached by Martin Brodeur. |

The Sharks, (& the NYR specific interest in RW/LW forward Timo Meier), aren't the only California team whom the Rangers had recent trade discussions with over the past week or more. In fact, just earlier tonight, the Rangers were one of the teams that had a scout or more attend the ANA@PHI game, according to the word of Adam Kimelman @NHLAdamK:
#ScoutsInTheHouse for Ducks-Flyers tonight:
Blue Jackets, Devils, Capitals, Rangers, Kings, Stars
Like the Rangers rumored interest in a Frank Vatrano reunion, word last week had the Leafs being another team in talks with the Ducks to possibly acquire him. However, word had the Rangers also possibly interested in Ducks D'man, Dmitri Kulikov, ($2.25M Exp. Contract & a UFA this Summer), for whom I think there would be a better option elsewhere to pair with Schneider, should they want an upgrade over Ben Harpur who has filled that role sufficiently enough.
Should Meier not be affordable with his $6M expiring 2022/23 contract, and being RFA eligible this Summer, but with a $10M Qualifying Offer, hence the Rangers interest in a possible Vatrano reunion. But Drury may have one advantage over other teams interested in Meier. That is his past years' relationship with Mike Grier who just happens to be the Sharks current GM. |

Theres no shot we go for Meier. Also, I think Maatta from Detroit is a better option for LD than Kulikov and we could probably resign Maatta on a good deal for a couple years. |

Daily Faceoff has NYR very interested in Timo Meier, would that just be a rental kinda thing where they flip him after the season? - mrn22
Yes, due to arb figure he would need based on current AAV |

Braun? Why? - airjan23
In contrast to scouting the Ducks for options, I don't feel the Rangers were scouting anyone on the Flyers at Tuesday night's game other than possibly James van Riemsdyk as another top six forward rental option ($7M expiring contract), prior to him becoming a UFA in July. He has been rumored to be a Rangers' option by some of the NHL experts out there, including due to him in his youth being a Rangers fan. So maybe he could last longer than as a rental here if things work out on the ice, and with him money wise in the Summer.
As for Braun, I believe they prefer a LH shooting LD as Harpur is for playing alongside Schneider. I wrote after midnight on liking Gavrikov, but feeling his interest garnered would cost them too much in assets that they first need to fill the need for top six scoring depth. Like Meier, Vatrano, and van Riemsdyk, there will be additional new rumors circulating, since the very costly Patrick Kane seems like he doesn't prefer taking just a few months hiatus away from Chicago, unless having pre trade talks for a possible extension on a new deal wherever a trade may land him. |

I didn't say that things favor the Rangers in being able to afford Meier financially, given especially his Summer RFA eligibility and $10M Qualifying Offer in being arbitration eligible.
What I stated is that Drury may have an advantage over other teams' GM's to make a trade for Meier be possible, due to his past well relationship known with Mike Grier, the Sharks GM. So maybe the money side can be worked out for Drury to afford him, given the return wanted by Grier. And don't forget that Sharks head coach David Quinn knows the Rangers and their prospects better than anyone else if they plan to keep Quinn there for a full rebuild & longer.
The $10M qualifying offer is the detriment here. Absorbing the prorated balance of Meier's $6M expiring contract is less of an issue compared to trying to work out a costly trade of assets to acquire the prorated balance of Patrick Kane's expiring $10M contract, & having 50% of his salary & cap be retained by Chicago. It's been over a year already with the Kane talk, and had both sides been able to come up with a fair deal earlier, Kane would have likely already been a Ranger by last Summer. |

I think I have a pretty decent track record of always wanting to trade for someone. Is this team perfect? No. Can we make small additions? Sure. But the last thing I want them doing is getting rid of some of the younger guys for rentals or over the hill players. |

Tampa getting hot
next year's cap they are probably in their worst predicament ever, 3 million in cap space with 14 guys signed, and they also have Seabrook to put on LTIR
Sergachev, Cirelli and Cernak all signed for more money next year than they are making this year
they'll come up with some new voo-doo nobody has seen yet to get through it |

well the good news is we dont have the cap space to acquire over the hill veterans
and if we keep getting injuries that dont require LTIR, the deadline cap space is going to keep getting lower
