You guys keep forgetting it's a protected pick. If they lose bad enough they can still keel it. Don't want that to happen but anything is possible.
- chazpet

Yep then it goes to 2024 and it’s unprotected. If it all blows up he better be ready to put it all back together real quick.

Let's hope they sign Horvat before that happens or he might change his mind.

Snow wasn't a bad drafter...
- Upstate_isles

Snow was not the Devils GM but he could have been with their performance in the past.

Don't know what you guys think but I still want a top line wing. Let's go all in. I don't about the future. Guys from HS class dropping like flies. Cup or bust. Timo. Laine. Tarasanko. Let's get someone. Come on Lou. I know we don't have anything to trade but figure something out.

There in lies the problem. Pretty obvious I wasn’t a big fan of this trade for multiple reasons but here we are so even I’m like screw it may as well go for it. That’s even when factoring in the long term negative implications. May as well enjoy it however it turns out. It was a go for it kind of move but it’s more then likely not enough(which was part of my issue with it to begin with). Not sure what a second round pick and spare parts can get us but that’s what we have to work with…

Yeah, the move for Horvat pretty much means it's all or nothing now. Regardless of whether one believes that's the right or wrong approach for this moment, it's what the team's committed to at this point. So, we might as well all hope for one or two more moves and a ton of luck and good fortune.

Any sort of rebuilding/retooling from this point forward is going to be a long and painful process given the lack of picks, prospects, and tradable assets to get it started, so we just gotta hope for the immediate success that will make that process worth it later.

I mean, at this point...(frank) it. Give up Bolduc and a 2024 1st and go get Tarasenko or something

I guess in theory if we traded Horvat out at the deadline we could get a similar (perhaps even larger) return for him. Then Varly, Mayfield and another player or two could set us up with an NHL ready prospect or two. If we go past the trade deadline without doing any of this, there's obviously no turning back.

They could certainly turn around and flip him in a month and retain salary so he'd fit on any team, but Lou was pretty clear that this wasn't just a trade for this year. Obviously if Horvat says "I don't want to sign here for anything less than (insert ridiculous number here)" than that might change things...but it seems really unlikely they move him....even if they fall way out of the race.

Yep that’s my thought process. If you’re going to go for it and blow it up go nuclear. (frank) it.

From last thread, Mayfield, varly and Parise are up this year. Clutterbuck, aho, sorkin, Martin and Bailey are the following year
- Upstate_isles

Mayfield - Keep if there is an indication that he will sign a cap friendly deal.
Varly - Unless we are in the playoffs. Move him to recoup draft picks.
Parise - I give the same deal he just had.
Baily - Try trade this year.

Clutterbuck - may wind up on LTIR. not resigning
AHO - not resigning.
Martin - not resigning.
Bailey - not resigning.

Sorokin - give him what he wants.

All four of the players in bold are already signed through next season

Buffalo Trace is everywhere up here. Relatively cheap, too.

Personally, I prefer Maker’s Mark.

Like Makers a lot, however I indulge more Buffalo Trace. I feel it is smoother, good aroma, and a more even burn.

I realize that. However, one can be buried in the minors, one should be traded, one bought out and the last one on LTIR if his shoulder is that bad that it has to be repaired again.

Stay with me for a moment. The 23 1st round pick is protected if top 12. So if the Islanders suck the rest of the season it means Vancouver doesn't get that pick. Who says the Islanders have to use it? Couldn't they then give it to say SJ if that was part of a deal for Timo? And if they got Timo I don't think they would suck that bad so Vancouver would get the 23 1st rounder and then SJ would get the 24 1st rounder. Is that legal?

They can't trade it if it's conditional. There's still over a month of hockey to play after the trade deadline that will affect where their draft pick is.

It sure would! But it might be worth it if they can make a good run or two at the cup.
