I don’t disagree. I think Lambert is starting to show signs that he’s out of answers . I don’t blame him but I also don’t think he’s absolved of blame either. With that said I doubt very much Lambert is telling them to go out there and put in a half arsed effort. They’re not the most talented team, I don’t have unrealistic expectations but you can see they just aren’t skating. There’s no excuse for that.

He's looking pretty pissed off and frustrated.

He looks like he’s aged 5 or 7 years since October.

Not easy coaching these players. Just Bailey is tough enough.

At least we aren't getting those stupid post game answers that we got from Crapuano.

I have no idea what he'll do (none of us do). It's just my concern.

I stopped caring then the Horvat trade gave me a shot of life for a hot second. Kind of like the team I don’t care again.

I don’t blame him. Believe me he’s giving it to them but the team isn’t responding.

"Per team statistician Eric Hornick, the Islanders third period differential is now -1; the Isles were +16 in the third period through 23 games but are -17 over the last 33 games."

Wow that 4 on 3 in ot was brutal, Dobson threw it away 2x without being pressured. Unreal

Something I observed the last few games. Dobson and Barzal seem to be the biggest culprits on the PP with slowing it down. Both players hold the puck, hesitate to pass, and give the opposing team time to defend. Completely indecisive with the puck a man up. Maddening to watch.

PP has been an issue for years. Bo should help, but Dobson and Barzal do seem to struggle with making quick decisions on the PP.

Dobson preinjury was doing this. Barzal slows down the play pretty much every time he has the puck when we’re a man up. It’s counterintuitive to what he should be doing on the PP.

Very strange to use the word slow when it comes to Barzal.

I think it comes down to the overall lack of speed and skill with the team.

Interesting take. On one hand, slowing things down and drawing players over is one of the things that make Barzy dangerous. On the other, if the other players aren't moving, it allows the defense time to reset and find their man. I think one of the big problems of our PP over the past few years has been the entire unit lacks movement.

With Matt Martin's goal, he has now tied Josh Bailey on the year with six goals.. This despite Bailey playing on the PP, PK and top line.

Before the BO trade, Barzal was probably thinking to himself during the PP about who am I suppose to pass to on this team and he ended up really slowing things down.

Maybe we go after Bailey too much, but Bailey being this long time Islanders and seemingly being so respected among the players and coaches, It's a bad look and a bad influence on young players the way Bailey plays the game. It has to upset young players when they need to sit and Bailey can continue to float all over the ice.

Barzy is one of those rare guys who has exceptional skating ability, hands and vision. He tends to use all of this to create time and space which 'should' allow other players the opportunity to find soft spots. Horvat does exactly that and we've seen the result. Like Bailey, Barzys greatest skills also tend to get him in trouble when he waits too long. It's a risk/reward thing, I guess.

This is a good point keaner. There will always be some risk with Barzal's game. I do think he needs to clean up the turnovers, but it might always be a part of his game. I think Barzal tries to do too much sometimes and it does not come from being lazy.

I really hope Lou realizes this team isn't making the playoffs. I don't want him to make any desperation moves.
- JimmyP

I think he already did with the Bo Trade given up our first round pick AGAIN. Even though Bo has been playing great we are just not gonna make the playoffs this year.

This. Observed it multiple times recently and last season. That’s exactly what happens. When the PK is waiting for you to make your move you already lost. You’re doing their job taking time off the clock and they are set up ready to defend whatever you throw at them. Giving them that time is the problem with our PP. Bailey of course does it whenever he’s out there but with Barzal and Dobson it’s like it is part of their playbook.

Otto Koivula is on the ice before #Isles    practice.
