There is a lot of talent on this team and they will only get better. Zegras is an RFA next year so he isnt going anywhere. But the majority of the D are UFAs. Has Klingberg done enough to get the deal he is looking for? what about a guy like dumba? Orlov? Klefbom? All UFAs next year so no asset loss. The ducks have under $40M committed right now. Great situation to be in. Can shape the team the way eakins wants.

Eakins will be gone next year. I'm going to have to check out Cap Friendly to see what UFA D-men will be available next year. You have to figure Klingberg, Kulikov, and Beaulieu will be gone, possibly even Shattenkirk, although I've heard a rumor GMPV might want to re-sign him. Drysdale will be back and that will definitely help and they might have Zelleweger and maybe Mintykov on the back end. It will be a while before they start to challenge for the playoffs but I believe the pieces are there.
On a different note, I've been watching the Kings-Pens game, why the hell didn't Sullivan start Tokarski last night? They probably still would have won and you'd have a decent goalie playing against a better team. Bizarre decision.

See I believe if Vertank was even remotely interested in being competent at his job, this could be attainable next yr.

Smart adds and a real interest in being competitive are not that far away. There is plenty of talent around to make this team better on the backend along with tweaks and growth up front.

They have the goalies - just need some guys that can actually D.
