Whaaaaat, Kotkaniemi isn't cutting it as a 2nd line center?

I don't know about "thank goodness".

At his current pricetag, even if Kotkaniemi ends up being a very good third line centre for them, he's not horrible to have around.

On the flipside, we took the compensation and traded for Dvorak... who's not looking much better.... so we kinda wasted the biggest part of the return.

It's funny how all of the media north of the border is like "THEY NEED A 2ND LINE CENTER NOW" while everyone on the Canes beat is saying they're looking at scoring wingers with term.

Sean Monahan s'est entraîné avec ses coéquipiers mais avec un chandail non-contact. Il ne jouera évidemment pas ce soir et Martin St-Louis ne sait pas s'il pourra revenir au jeu samedi à Toronto. #rds

Monahan skating with a no-contact jersey...hopefully he can play a few games before the deadline and a GM takes the bait

How about a player that can play both C and W, produce offensively and will be rested for the playoffs?

That offersheet was a dumb ass move from Bergy ... you just don't do that. it's an unwritten rule between GM's.

Bergy then panicked when Carolina retaliated and had to settle for Dvorak.

I'm happy we got rid of Bergy & Cie.

Not really. They more just need one or the other and it makes more sense to push Seth Jarvis down the lineup.

or he doesn't get traded, gets another 1 year deal for the habs, plays awesome hockey next season, and the habs give him a decent 3-year deal once they really know he can stay healthy and can still play...

meh, never got why it was so bad, if offersheets weren't meant to be used then they shouldn't exist.

Replace Kotkaniemi with an older guy who scored less than Kotkaniemi last year and hasn't been healthy in years.

Smart.

It was dumb because it wasn't even close to high enough for Carolina to consider not matching.

Monahan's health is obviously a factor.

But if he plays the way he has since the beginning of the year, he's an excellent addition for anyone that trades for him.

Yeah...could happen. But if I'm Hughes, if Monahan tells me he wants to test the free market next summer, and I have a decent offer for him, I pull the trigger.

Offer sheets are dumb. There is a reason why they practically never happen.

I kinda wish he'd stay with the habs, but let's just say we've had our fair share of injury-prone players in MTL, so if they can deal him, by all means do it lol.

As I said it's an unwritten rule between GMs ... it's considered tampering with another team's lineup. If I was a GM and someone else messed around with my players, I would be mad too. You can't blame Carolina for protecting their interests, the extra $20 was a clear message to Bergy.

Among other reasons, Bergy got fired because Molson knew that Bergy would be blackballed by other GMs and would no longer be able to do his job effectively.
