re-sign him now

Alzner's buyout will be finally complete next year, so it would be a good opportunity for the habs to replace it with another ridiculously dumb deal.

the cap won't be an issue for sure but it could still potentially free up some money for the TDL that could be used as leverage to acquire picks, if the opportunity presents itself. it's never a bad thing to have more options, and it could also help motivate Gurianov to work his ass off to stay with the big club.

My guess is he will get a one year contract at same salary, unless they really have no interest and let him walk. They don't have much to lose with that one year contract.

I think the fact Habs will have a lot of cap space next season is the reason they will qualify him at 3M, knowing chances are they will let him walk a year from now.
if they were up againts the cap they would probably let him walk this summer.
up to him to play well on a daily basis to deserve a new contract. in Mtl or elsewhere in the league.
I do not have high expectations.

It is people doing the equivalent of self-medicating to soothe their soon to be broken heart not only for knowing the Leafs are gonna fail in the playoffs again, but also that he is gone the first chance he gets.
- Mashadar

it always felt like this was more of a silly rumor to trash talk some more with the leafs, but yeah I guess this could happen... if Arizona actually wins the Bedard lottery (eww, that would be so (frank)ing lame) then the narrative about Matthews wanting to go back home could make a bit more sense.

there's no point in having very high expectations in this case anyway, that way it leaves room for a potentially pleasant surprise... and if it doesn't work out, oh well, no disappointment either.

I think it's more about the number of forwards that could be at camp next season and that could make it on the team

Drouin is not coming back, but guys like Hoffman and Armia have contracts and will be at camp

I'm not aware of the specific details pertaining to available roster spots but if Gurianov somehow keeps getting better and becomes a good fit with the habs I'm sure they'll do what's needed to keep him around.

next year is his last year on that contract, this wouldn't really make any sense.

sure if he shows he could be worth it, yeah

just saying there could be a lot of traffic at camp next season : Suzuki, Caufield, Anderson, Dvorak, Gallagher, Slavkosky, Dach, Hoffman, Armia, Gurianov, Armia, Evans... all those guys have contracts or should have one to start next season. Assuming everybody there is ready to go to start the 23-24 season. That's a lot of NHL forwards. Forgot to add Pitlick, he has one year left.
I'm asssuming Monahan is not coming back. Some guys like RHP and Ylonen will also have nhl experience by then. Same could be true for Farrell. That's not even mentionning guys like Roy, Owen Beck or Kidney.

it makes plenty of sense. 1st it opens a spot for a kid, or for Gurianov if you prefer.
2nd you don't want him around, not at all the type of vet you need for the culture they want. the sooner the better.

meh, I don't think he has an attitude problem or whatever, he's just the player that he is. and players on their last year tend to elevate their play to get an extension somewhere, this could become the right timing to actually get something interesting in return for him at the TDL. anyway I really don't see the point, let bygones be bygones I guess.

let's hope the injury plague won't continue haunting the habs, so that they actually have some options to work with lol

is Target considered a decent store down there? I'm not sure if the canadian version was different but for the brief time they were here I thought it kinda sucked lol.

down here it's like a better walmart.

with customers that don't smell and didn't ride a tractor to the store.

like the chicken said, they already have 12 forwards signed for next season (assuming Gurianov is qualified).
so no place for RHP, Ylonen and Belzile.
so yeah, they have to make room and buying out Hoffman is a great place to start.
