Karine Hains: In Hainisight: 6th Defeat in a Row Really Felt Like a Loss The Habs fell 3-1 to the Devils last night and they weren’t as competitive as they were in their last 5 games.

Farrell is the player to watch now, not yet playing for the Habs.

Read he is the most NHL ready among Habs prospects.

Hopefully he can play a few games with the Habs, even if I dont wish him bad luck in the NCAA.

There's so many young players currently injuried with the habs that would make the games more worthwhile to watch for me (Wifi, Dach, Slafkosky, etc).

Gurianov seems to be able to find open space. Hopefully he continues to see 2nd line minutes. Might turn into a decent gamble for Hughes

well it was a risk-free move for sure, "gamble" in this case simply means giving Gurianov some ice time to see if he can find his game and start putting his skills to good use again.

The gamble is extending and at how much.

I think he can be a useful player, but I would not want to see a long contract attached to him.

good point, and there's more of a risk there for sure, since the sample size the habs have to evaluate and determine what he'd be worth isn't very large. I'm confident though Hughes won't be dishing out a lengthy and lucrative contract even if Gurianov plays well until the end of the season, it just wouldn't make sense.

let say they qualify him at 3M per for next season.
what do you think they would get for him on the trade market at the 2024 tdl?
probably not much, not the type of player contenders are looking for.
so yeah, give him one year to prove himself, but then probably let him walk next summer.

the habs could always hand Gurianov a two-way qualifying offer since he's eligible for it, making it a bit less risky/easier to manage if things don't work out.

A $2,900,000 qualifying offer is required to retain the RFA rights of Denis Gurianov. A two-way qualifying offer is permitted since Gurianov has not met both the games played and waivers requirements. The qualifying offer is equal to 100% of the previous contracts final season base salary because the salary was $1,000,000 or greater.

well if he really sucks donkey balls the habs can just bury him in the AHL, thus lowering his cap hit, instead of being stuck with a one-way 2.9M deal...

It is people doing the equivalent of self-medicating to soothe their soon to be broken heart not only for knowing the Leafs are gonna fail in the playoffs again, but also that he is gone the first chance he gets.

Saves about a million, not sure cap will be an issue for a few years though.

I wouldn't worry too much about the cap for next season

the cap won't be an issue for sure but it could still potentially free up some money for the TDL that could be used as leverage to acquire picks, if the opportunity presents itself. it's never a bad thing to have more options, and it could also help motivate Gurianov to work his ass off to stay with the big club.
