Moving Provorov with two years left is the play. You could get a big return for a "minutes eater" like him from a Hockey Man GM. Then York and Sanheim can play the left side of the top 4. Frankly it's terrible that Saint Ivan refuses to play the right side and is making York play there instead. - Feanor
Why?
What’s really terrible is not getting Provorov a partner for the majority of his career who primarily plays the right side. In recent years, I can only name a handful of defensemen who had no issue switching sides. Pronger, Coburn and Sanheim. Kimmo Timonen and Eric Desjardins rarely if at all adjusted to whomever they played with. |

I am afraid you have not been reading this block attentively since he became an interim GM. Perhaps it's not so much Danny as his position in the organization.
People started posting on his incompetence and allegiance to the "golf club" almost immediately without giving him any breathing room or a benefit of the doubt. - missingmike
Yes, maybe my using hate was too strong of a word, but like you said, Danny most certainly has not been much benefit of the doubt. Danny has a lot of work to do and it will take time to fix the miss we are in. If he runs things the way Chuckles did, he will deserve to be criticized. Hopefully he starts to steer us in the right direction.

BTW, did anyone watch the LHV Phantoms and Hershey Bears last night on the NHL network. Wow, did the Phantoms look brutal. I was laughing at how much the Phantoms seem to mimic the Flyers when they play a decent NHL team, very little puck possession, hemmed into their own zone and pretty much a shooting gallery on their goalie. - jd250
I didn't see the game but follow up on the Phantoms occasionally through Bill's recaps and box scores. It's disheartening to see the lack of top talent on the team and it's not a good sign for the future.

About 15 minutes ... :-)
Seriously ... there probably is a place for Frost on this team next season. However I stand by my take on Frost, that 1. If Frost is playing in the top 6, the team is not a contending team, and 2. There is good chance Frost is traded in the off-season because I think Torts does not like him as a player based on what Torts has said and not said this season. - jd250
If Tippet is playing in the top 6, is this team a contending team? How long do you think it's going to take for this team to reach the level of being a contender? The Flyers are not in a position of having a surplus of young talent. Nor are they in a position of appeasing a dinosaur coach who says he is struggling to find offense but doesn't like offensive players. |

No one was physically hurt and I'm sure the disabled person has been more than made whole financially, so if that's the worst thing he's ever done I'm sure his dad would consider that a win. But the timing of it couldn't have been worse. - Feanor
I'm sure his dad is considering this a win considering his son has been suspended for the second time from his second hockey team at his second college. The timing does suck no doubt. |

Agreed, and I think the Flyers players development also needs a major overhaul. I didn't know this but Sam Morin is working in player development! What the hell does Sam Morin know about player development? I can see him as a scout or maybe starting to learn the business side of the game, but how can a player that has been injured his entire career give good advice to a player on the best way to develop? This is an example of just putting an ex-player into a position to give him job. The Flyers have to bring in someone that knows how to develop players, preferably someone from an organization that has a clear track record of developing their own talent. - jd250
How many times do we have to go over the fact that player development is mostly about off ice living? It's how to eat during the season, how to manage your money, how to deal with the press, how to avoid being taken advantage of because you have lots of money, etc etc etc.
It has little or nothing to do with what happens on the ice.
So yes, Sam Morin would know a LOT about it. |

Considering how poorly Briere Jr has been playing this year I think it's a win for the Mercyhurst hockey team as well.

Those things you list are a component, but it's there's also aspects of the role that happen on and adjacent to the ice. Like game prep, helping players interpret feedback they receive from the coaches, keeping kids on an even keel, skills development, connecting kids with resources, helping guide rehab, training, etc.
Like if they draft a kid who struggles with skating it could be Sam who initially helps evaluate their stride, connects them with the best skating coach for their particular issue, helps them maintain training targets, helps reinforce proper technique, encourages progress, etc. In some ways he'd be partially accountable for their improvement or lack thereof.
But yeah, development is less coaching and more like a mentor/guidance counselor kind of deal. |

Why is it a win? All this says is that they identified the three kids and are suspending them from their teams until they figure out what they're going to do with them. No doubt there is more to come from the school and from the owner of the wheelchair. I dont think there's anything about this that Danny B can feel very positive about right now. I feel for him. |

I disagree. We, the fans, critique coaches for a) placing players in the positions they can not succeed, and b) not getting optimal outcomes from a player.
In this situation a player knows that it's counter productive to his game to switch sides, and that he would be much more efficient on the left than on the right.
Had the coach moved Ivan to the opposite side with no improvement in the output, there would be a big outcry here about coach's incompetence.
It appears, Ivan is damned if he does and damn if he does not. |

You're right with the tangents that your opinion goes off on, I can't follow, nobody can. You've been trying to justify your previous comments that Briere has connections to the Sabres by referencing his friendship with Biron. Again, Biron is a radio and TV analyst and is not a member of the Sabres hockey ops. Secondly, in terms of Buffalo trading for Hart. I assure you that as the GM, Briere is not going to be talking to Biron about the Flyers internal plans. Most importantly, none of this has nothing to do with trading Hart. It's just more along the same lines as the inside info you claimed to have on Gaudreau. - MJL
You’re right. Biron just the radio personality who played for Sabres and interviews fo and players had no connection to the hockey ops. I mean literally talks to them all the time. Equals no connection. Literally does tv from within the arena. Surely has no connection with team what’s so ever.
Best friends with briere. Surely they NEVER talk hockey. Especially about teams they BOTH played for. Or about players past and present.
Surely they talk about wine and cheese combos.
You’re obtuse. Plain and simple. |

If the Flyers do not sign O'Brien when is the second round compensatory pick provided? Is it this draft or the next? |

Absolutely! Nobody is calling Ivan Provorov a saint by any stretch. He chose not to support gay pride night. He’s struggled for probably three straight seasons in play. I’ve seen more support in trading him than keeping him. I would argue Torts has held him back all season by giving him very little offensive opportunities. If we trade him, we trade him but I’m willing to be large paper money he thrives somewhere else. |

As a parent, who has been through nonsense like this before (disclaimer <21 yrs old), I really feel for Danny. This is a complete loss all around, and healing will take time for everyone involved.

I quit moderating today. Most of you are good people but those who didn't follow the rules are (frank)ing toolbags to the umpteenth degree.
Adults that can't follow simple rules on the internet make me laugh because it isn't how they would treat co-workers. Or you know, low key physically threaten someone because you got banned off a site.
What the best part is? You talk poop about the site but can't stay the (frank) away. It's incredibly sad.
MJL, you're an okay person but learn to admit when you're wrong. You move goal posts and can't concede a point on the (frank)ing internet about a hockey team. I don't get it. I legit don't...you aren't going to change these people's minds so why keep doing it? You must just enjoy it.
JD250, you must enjoy going at it with MJL all day because I can't see why you'd entertain that constant droning. |

Coots will be the 1C. The Flyers will NOT be signing a 1C in any shape this coming off season. That would be ridiculous. Drafting one who is ready to play is also not very likely unless they somehow luck into Bedard or Fantilli. Bedard may be a 1C out of the gate, but I dont think Fantilli would be. That is neither here nor there. I also think Gauthier will either play another season in college (more likely) or 1 season in the AHL. Either way he is nowhere near ready to be a 1C. - MBFlyerfan
he is correct Coots will be the 2C, they will not have a 1c, which is better than this season, since they don't have a 1 or 2C. When he is right he is right, have to give it to him. |
