I love Simpson. Him and Ferraro are my faves.

Shocks me, considering how much Simpson despises the Leafs.

While I won’t pretend to know what Bettman would do but if the other 31 teams aren’t happy about what a rich team like threads can do I doubt the deal will favour the leafs since their playoff spot is already confirmed.

Also there was this released about a half hour ago… no Woll at practice

I doubt the other teams care about who the Leafs have in net tonight but I don’t think the Leafs have all that good a case

2023 U SPORTS U CUP MVP goalie Samuel Richard could start for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the NHL tonight vs the Tampa Bay Lightning

Just 23 days ago, he won the U CUP with UNB in Charlottetown.

Could be an incredibly quick rise to the show.

I'm torn between it's cool for the kid to get to play but also it's kinda throwing him to the wolves, because I want the Leafs to bench half the team, too.

League makes a mockery of which teams can manipulate a rule and which one can’t (notice one is not plural) - dress 6 skaters all game no tender. Make a mockery of the game. Matthews switch to Kucherovs number Marner to Stones for the game only.

Getting to the point where I kinda just hope the Leafs forfeit the game. That'll REALLY show Bettman up.

EDIT: Should've done this yesterday so that it'd have actual league wide repercussions. Florida gets 2 points and makes the playoffs because of it.

Pitt, Buttalo, and NYI cry.

This is the clause in the CBA 50.10 (e):

Roster Emergency Exception.

In the event that

(i) a Club has Payroll Room less than the sum of the Minimum Paragraph 1 NHL Salary and $100,000 (i.e., that Club's Averaged Club Salary is greater than the Upper Limit minus the Minimum Paragraph 1 NHL Salary minus $100,000);

(ii) a Player on such Club becomes unfit or unable to play (i.e., is injured, ill or disabled and unable to perform his duties as a hockey Player) or is suspended;

(iii) such Club is unable to sign and/or Recall a Player with an Averaged Amount equal to the Minimum Paragraph 1 NHL Salary plus $100,000 under the Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Exception;

(iv) as a result of such Player being unfit or unable to play or suspended and the Club having Payroll Room less than the sum of the Minimum Paragraph 1 NHL Salary and $100,000, the Club has fewer than eighteen (18) skaters and two (2) goalies ("18 and 2") on its Playing Roster (pursuant to Section 16.4(c)); and (v) the Club played its previous game with fewer than 18 and 2 (a "Roster Emergency"), then such Club may, beginning with the second game and continuing with all subsequent games and without any charge to the Club's Averaged Club Salary for the duration of such Roster Emergency, add to its Playing Roster the requisite number of "emergency replacement" Player(s), provided, however, that (i) each such Player may not have an Averaged Amount that is more than the then-applicable Minimum Paragraph 1 NHL Salary plus $100,000 (e.g., $625,000 in 2012-13); and (ii) each such Player may only remain on that Club's Active Roster during the period of the "Roster Emergency."

(i) The Paragraph 1 NHL Salary and Bonus of any Player added to the Playing Roster pursuant to this Section shall be included in the Players' Share.

(ii) No Club shall be limited in the number of times it may invoke the Roster
Emergency Exception in any League Year, provided that the Exception is
at all times invoked in full compliance with this Section 50.10(e).

Note that we played yesterday with an ATO because we had fewer than the 18 & 2 rule as well. There is no legitimate reason why the NHL would refute the claim today. They had grounds yesterday - and even that is a technicality because they could have opted to not allow the Leafs to register Knies' contract due to this violation.

Ha - truly though who cares eh. Leafs clinched home ice. Game is meaningless doesn’t matter who they throw in. Be good to give a kid a memory.

…it is fun though to come up with ridiculous ways to go about it ha

Article 50.10(e) of the CBA disagrees. See above. Specifically the clause about having just played a game with an ATO goalie.

All jokes aside, but this guy is a lights out top goal tender. Trust me I watched the AUS Series this year, and he covers the net well.

Hope Kyle gives him a shot.

We have some good scouting for sure. Should bode well for the future.

Leafs should sign Wideman in the offseason to an AHL only contract... then send him down to play for the Growlers.

tell him he'll get his chance at the end of the season if there are injuries.

Articles and clauses don’t agree or disagree. The person with the authority to interpret and enforce those articles and clauses can agree or disagree. That person is Gary Bettman and I have no idea how he’ll decide. As long as Samsonov doesn’t play a minute I don’t really care although I think it would be fun to beat Tampa with a college kid. The only downside is that it might make TBL decide to be good again.

He's never going to get to play in the NHL otherwise.

So ask yourself, if you were in his shoes, would you rather:

Get to play and game in the NHL and get lit up?; or

Never get to play in the NHL.

He'll not necessarily get lit up. He's got a pretty good defensive team in front of him.

Imagine if the NHL's playoff format made any sense whatso(frank)ingever.

These games would actually mean something and there could still be a handful of teams the Leafs could face.

Instead we've been locked into facing a certain team since game 7 of the first round of last years playoffs.

But you're right, Bettman, the playoff format is perfect and there's nothing wrong with it.

Or to look at it another way:

If it was a straight 1-8 format, we'd be playing the New York Rangers, who currently have 107 points.

Instead, we'll play Tampa, who currently have 96 points.

I love the playoff format. A rematch with Tampa is a great storyline. I'm glad it's not going to change, it's a beautiful format.
