I think you're being generous to Tampa and less generous to the leafs. If this were any other team but the leafs, people would have them clearly winning.

Leafs win this round.

Hey you know what else is accurate? Your team needed Johnny Toronto to score a game winner to help the Fishsticks get into the playoffs.

Will Islanders fans chant “thank you JT” next year when the Leafs come to that dump known as Long Island?

They should but they won’t.

That’s the point. Samsonov’s numbers against the Panthers have nothing to do with it.
- Minnyhock

So when you said, "Vasilevsky was that bad and Samsonov that good and TB still won." you somehow were making a point? Or are you now deflecting from that incorrect statement?

Campbell was adequate - and you could argue that he was marginally better than Vasilevskiy in the series - but Samsonov was better in his series. Having a better goalie this year, with more mature players, more grit, more determination and facing a Tampa team that is a bit older, looking more tired, and without McDonagh and Palat does take a series that came down to a couple of questionable officiating decisions, and sway it by a larger margin.

I’m saying the poster should have been comparing Vasilevsky with Campbell like you just did. What Samsonov did against the Panthers is not transferable to how he would have performed against TB.

Campbell isn't in the series so I have to go off what the current goalie has since we're comparing last years stats. If we ignore Samsonov's stats because "not against tampa" then we have to ignore Vasilevsky's because it's not the same team as last year, nor does he have the same team in front of him. Like either we use the stats at hand or ignore them, we don't/can't ignore them for one and not the other, it skews the comparison.

We can simply use the regular season stats we have.

Samsonov - 2.33 and .919
Vasilevsky - 2.65 and .915

Advanced analytics say that Goals Saved Above Expected is a superior metric to GAA and Save%. Vasilevsky beats Samsonov there 25.3-18.0. Vasilevsky has been and is the better goalie. No one knows who will be better in a short series.

It may not be the slam dunk you think it is. TB is a proven winner. They know the regular season is all about making the playoffs and preparing for a long run. Vasilevsky has been a little off but he always comes up big in the playoffs. Samsonov been good but doesn’t have the track record of Vasilevsky. The Leafs don’t have anyone as good as Hedman and Sergachev on the back end. TB always seems to have a role player or two that play above expectations in the playoffs.

The scariest part of playing against Tampa is the refereeing.

I see you're simply cherry picking a single stat for your personal narrative. If you want to take the advanced stats angle then show them all. Samsonov beats out Vasi in every category.

Here you can check the link here.
https://moneypuck.com/goalies.htm

But as you've said at the end of your post, you've hedged by stating the stats don't matter in a 7 game series. So the whole thing is moot. Nothing but "the eye" test is valid here then and Samsonov has looked better than Vasi and he's not looked so good as of late.

Like are you going to use stats or toss them away as I said earlier? Pick one. It's fine for whatever you decide.

All the stats in the world don't win a playoff series, the players do.

Only important number is 6...6 years in a row being ousted in the 1st round. Will it be broken this year, maybe, but if it reaches 7 then more is needed than just a GM change.

Wow you Toronto fans are a piece of work. Haven't won a cup in 60 years. Talk the same poop every year about how much they are going to win only to get spanked over and over again. Are there any Toronto fans still alive since the last time they won the cup? lol.

Leafs got hosed big time in Game 6 last year. But they still had game 7 to get it done. We all know Gary's boys will be against the CDN teams so they will need to find ways to play through it. As the CDN teams go deeper it will be even tougher. Gotta find ways.

Nah we’ll still be chanting we don’t need you because we’ve done better since he has been gone. Also, the fishtix have even done better then the Leafs since he signed there. We also like doing it bcs it gets your fanboys panties in a bunch as well as his. As long as your feelings keep getting hurt we’ll keep doing it. That’s where we find the fun it. Thanks for the input though it’s appreciated.

It’s just awesome how much the Leafs and JT live in the heads of rattled Islanders fans.

And you did need him to make the playoffs this year when he was playing for Toronto but carry on with the false narrative & silly chants your fan base is like a teenaged boy who got dumped and can’t get over it.

Keep painting every Leaf fan with the same brush as if it makes you feel better. Did I say the Leafs were going to win the cup? No I didn’t. What I did say was Islander fans should be thanking JT for helping get you into the playoffs.

Islanders fans - can’t get over being dumped like a bad habit by JT since 2018.

It’s 2023 now, probably time to move on to the next stage of grieving - acceptance.

And people say Leaf fans are fragile!!!

You would actually want to use the per 60 rate. Vasi played in 18 more games than Samsonov did so his total will be higher because he has more volume.

Based on the their per60 rates, Samsonov was 0.436, Vasi 0.422 GSAE/60

My predictions:
-Leafs beat Tampa in 6 or less.
-there will be at least two games where the Reffing is atrocious, with respect to bad calls against Toronto.

I don't understand fans of teams who have made the playoffs and are actually good and NOT wanting to cheer for them to win the whole thing. A sad life they live that they can't have fun cheering for pro sports. I mean it's not really fun going "Well...we can hope for 1 series win but after that, I'm not allowed to be excited anymore. I have to predict they lose so I can win arguments for being right on the internet!"

FYI, even if you predict the right winner of a series it doesn't change your life.

Islanders got in because Pitts choked their last 2 games, not because of anything the Leafs did.
