When was the last time a consensus top player didn’t come over? I can’t even think
Of one (kaprizov sort of)

- ClaudeFather

don't know. hopefully he still goes in the top 5 and gives us a better shot at smith.

oh and the year rubstov was drafted a lot of russian players fell due to the scandal. i do remember that. but they also didn't play at the world juniors, so i think the scouting may have hurt that year.

I don’t think anyone in that range is going to be an instant gratification, there’s just no chance Danny takes a gamble like that on his first ever pick as GM
- ClaudeFather

I just don't see it as much of a gamble. We already know regardless of the political situation that he won't be in the NHL for three years. Unless something happens like with what happened with Miroshnichenko and he is able to terminate early.

I think if they are serious about doing a proper rebuild with the best talent possible, they should not overthink it and pick him.

All that being said, he won't be there at #7. So it's probably a moot point anyway.

just make it easy and get the second pick in the lottery. then we won't have to worry about it. though with the flyers luck, say he is there and we take him. then something will happen and he won't come over. if we pass he will be in the league in 3.

Something in the neighborhood of five years, which pre-empts some UFA years. He's already 24.

I'm good with that.

And some of you don't think this will be on the minds of NHL GMs at the draft when Michkov is still on the board? I predict Michkov will drop like a stone.

You've made two incorrect statements. Nobody has said that it won't be on the minds of NHL GM's. Nor did anyone say it wouldn't cause him to drop in the draft.

Frost improved as the year went along, thanks in large part to John Tortorella and his coaching staff, there is no doubt about it. I am as happy as anyone to see Frost develop, because I care more about the Flyers getting back to prominance than I do about my prediction being right. However, a word of caution. If I were you I would suspend the victory lap until you see which Frost shows up next season, the one that started this season or the one that ended this season.

Will Frost wind up an AHL player again?

I'm not sure in Hilferty's organizational vision, the President has that kind of authority anyway. Maybe the Flyers job description for President is the reason for shall we say is the rather deliberate process to fill the position. Scott needed to be replaced no doubt. Hilferty's start has been a little bumpy to start.
- Trox88

It has not been an encouraging start for Hilferty to say the least.

I'm looking to catch up on this topic...what have been some of the bumps ?

Thank you, D

It's right in front of us. Briere still has the interim tag. The draft is closing quickly, so is Flehr going to contimue as Asst. GM long term? Who is the cap expert? Certainly, the handling of the cap has not been great. Apparently, that is one of the responsibilities of the yet named President, I guess. The exact role of the President of the Flyers will be unique in scope compared to the President role of other organizations. Could it be better? Maybe, but is the job description makijg possible candidates pause.

There is a real threat that he will never play in the NHL for reasons that I won't elaborate on. Due to this is not the place for that conversation. However, NHL GM's are not paying attention to any of that.

Will Russian draftees be allowed of Russia? They may never see North American soil or if they do it would after the war.

They just "let" Miroshnichenko terminate his final year and sign an entry level deal with Washington.

Let's not count that chicken before it hatches. Fedotov had a signed contract in his hands when he was conscripted and sent beyond the polar circle.
Signed and "here" have slightly different definitions.

Obviously two different scenarios. There was a dispute on whether or not Fedotov had an active contract with his KHL team. Other stories say he was punished for pissing off the owner of his team who was a close friend of Putin and was then accused of "dodging" his military service. His team was affiliated with the Russian army.

What will be on the minds of GMs will be how he fits into the team and their time line. He is a winger who scores. Say for instance the Blue Jackets have a chance to pick him in the top 5. They need a center now and I don’t think he fits the player profile of their GM. So maybe a no for them. Each team has to evaluate need and risk. I could see him going between 3-8 but not dropping like a stone. Maybe he stays home for 5 years and comes over a polished player like Kaprizov. That’s a long wait but that probably is a scenario some teams could live with to get that.

Ovi probably put in a call to his buddy, Putin. That's how stuff works in Russia.
