well cates was in his first full nhl season as was frost and Tippet. So is taking a step forward just natural progression? - hello it's me 2050
usually but this has not been the case in years past where all seem to have progressed nicely.

I just don't see it as much of a gamble. We already know regardless of the political situation that he won't be in the NHL for three years. Unless something happens like with what happened with Miroshnichenko and he is able to terminate early.
I think if they are serious about doing a proper rebuild with the best talent possible, they should not overthink it and pick him.
All that being said, he won't be there at #7. So it's probably a moot point anyway. - MBFlyerfan
Three years is the best-case scenario. No guarantee there's not another road block come 2026. Also not a guarantee he won't be available.

If he is there at #7 (which I doubt) they WILL ABSOLUTELY take him. - MBFlyerfan
You have got to be delusional to think any team in the top 10-15 is taking Michkov at this point. I see him slipping until maybe the mid 20s in the first round where better teams who can afford to wait and take a big risk might take him. |

agree he wont gamble, especially with torts in his ear. - hello it's me 2050
I don't get the impression Torts cares about any player not actively playing on his NHL roster. How often did we see Torts watching Phantom's games. That would be Zero! The pick will be made by Danny and those in his ears will be his scouts. |

I like how he completely ignored everything Bill said about case-by-case.
Also he apparently doesn't realize that the "Russian factor" has been going on forever. Not the first time there was a lack of a transfer agreement, political conflicts or concerns about the KHL not wanting to relinquish player rights.
Still the best of the best still went 1OA, 2OA, etc. - Tomahawk
Don't you think things are a bit different now? US soldiers are now directly fighting Russian soldiers in Ukraine. The tension between the two countries has never been higher. Until the war ends, I don't see any Russian players being allowed to come and play in the NHL. |

What will be on the minds of GMs will be how he fits into the team and their time line. He is a winger who scores. Say for instance the Blue Jackets have a chance to pick him in the top 5. They need a center now and I don’t think he fits the player profile of their GM. So maybe a no for them. Each team has to evaluate need and risk. I could see him going between 3-8 but not dropping like a stone. Maybe he stays home for 5 years and comes over a polished player like Kaprizov. That’s a long wait but that probably is a scenario some teams could live with to get that. - Minnyhock
What seems to be forgotten also is every pick except maybe a few don’t play right away anyways. So teams typically have to wait a few years to see a draft pick anyways. So who cares if he develops in Russia for 3 years. |

Will Frost wind up an AHL player again? - MJL
That's totally up to Frost. He has the talent to be a productive middle six NHL forward, but I still question whether he has the drive to be consistent. I hope he does. I am rooting for him. |

Frost and Tippet will be good nhl players no doubt. People sometimes forget Frost was picked in the late 1st round was always a project. The early injuries didn’t help. Same can be said about tippet. Early circumstances in his career delayed his progress. It’s clear they both have cleared some hurdles and are ready to be everyday nhl players. Are they generational players no but they are pieces of this puzzle. |

Yeah. Bedard and Michkov are smaller players and generally smaller players take longer and have more risk. The enormous talent of both make them more bulletproof.

decent amount of hype for those 2.
Andre Razin was an older Russian who was rather good in Russia. Bill any idea if they ever tried to bring him over?

What does "how often did we see Tort's watching Phantoms games" mean. How would we see him? NHL coaches are pretty busy working with the NHL team. The Phantoms were either on the road or playing up in Lehigh valley. How often did we see Yeo or Vigneault watching Phantoms games? What would there be, an Instagram or Facebook video of the coach watching the Phantoms. You don't make any sense and come up with these narratives from fantasy land |

Not too different.
US soldiers are now directly fighting Russian soldiers in Ukraine. - jd250
No they aren't lol.
The tension between the two countries has never been higher. - jd250
Tensions were never low to begin with.
Putin's basically been waging a shadow war against the US since he took power. The US has been supporting and training the Ukrainian military since before 2014. US forces wiped out a group of Wagner mercs in Syria back in 2018.
And the Russian Ice Hockey Federation has been talking about finding ways to keep Russian players at home pretty much non-stop since the KHL was founded. They've encouraged guys like Kovy and Radulov to break their NHL deals.
So much conflict and tension yet Russians have been playing in the NHL this entire time.
Until the war ends, I don't see any Russian players being allowed to come and play in the NHL. - jd250
If the situation was really that dire wouldn't the restrictions have to include current Russian pros like OV, Provy, Bread, Kuch, Vasi, Shesty, Sorokin, etc too?
Why would the Russians stop at prospects? |

Do I really need to answer this? Bud you’re dumb and I can’t help that. You actually know when the flyers will be good again? Please share so we can all make a bundle. Circumstances like being drafted on a stack team. Not producing right away and being sent down because Florida was , is in a win now mode and have no patience. Frost same thing, drafted and dealt with some early injuries plus being very raw. This was the reason he was picked in the 20’s not top 5. Listen I don’t post here often because of fools like you. Shut up |

yes answer. They wont good again anytime soon. Many years. Accept it.
There was no circumstances; just an excuse on your end. He just wasn't good enough. He was provided some opportunites. Needed a change of scenario that has worked out. Not the same thing as frost in any way. Yet you call me a clown.
The reason frost was picked n the 20's was not because of injuries. Too funny. Top 5 even funnier. good lord. Play the fool
I am glad you dont post as you offer nothing. You really told me with the shut up.
