I think its Smith if hes available.

I think the Dubois contract would get settled around 8 to 8.25M on a long term deal. The problem for me is the cost to acquire him.

His agent is just using the old "set the bar" with the 9M ask, he knows he won't get it, he just wants 8+M/yr and wants to avoid the 7M/yr offers.

HuGo know what they are doing, I trust them to make a fair offer and see how it ends up, the good thing is this should know prior to the draft which is in 16 days.

First things first, I find it annoying that whenever a player has got Quebec on his birth certificate, there’s a good part of the fans who automatically think that the Canadiens should go out of their way to get them. Case in point, the “let’s get Mantha out of Washington campaign” and the “Dubois wants to play here let’s make it happen at any cost campaign”.



to be fair, I think it's pretty normal for habs fans in Quebec to not only want Quebec-born players on the team, but talented ones too. having a Steve Bégin or a Nicolas Deslauriers that works his ass off from one game to another is nice, but it's also pretty cool if MTL can add a "ptit gars de chez nous" with higher-end talent as well. and obviously acquiring them has to make sense from a habs team perspective, it isn't blindly "at any cost" as you're suggesting.

Leonard will be a playoffs performer, he is the grit a top 6 line need in the playoffs.

you are not getting a 1st with Mantha, all the Caps have to do is retain 50% salary and someone will trade give them a 3rd or 4th. It's a one year gamble. I would be surprised it he is on the Habs radar.

last 5 years for Mantha, game played: 43, 42, 14, 37 and 67 games. He had 11g 16a in 67 games last year. For a rebuilding team line MTL, keep a spot for one of the young guys.
