I would’ve preferred Roy, but honestly I don’t care one way or the other about Laviolette.

NHL, like other leagues, is a copycat league. Most NHL franchises swing from one extreme to the other when firing and hiring coaches. Gallant was player-friendly, Laviolette is not. Looks like Sather prevailed upon Drury to follow suit.

Drury took a team that was set up to compete for the next 10 years and turned our window into 2-3 years. He’s the one that needs to go.

The bottom line is the the guys on the ice have to play with more grit, determination, and focus. Laviolette may not be the shiny new coach everyone wanted, but I think, at the very least, NYR will be tougher to play against

I think it’s a good decision on Lavy. I was hoping for Roy, and not Hynes. So this is middle ground.

I’m not sure a new coach is what they needed but is what it is. The roster needs tweaking in areas imo so hopefully Drury gets that done along with it. Like can’t do one without the other if they want to win. GG was the scapegoat

I agree with this. Speaking of tougher to play against, there are some rumblings that the Kings have kicked the tires with the Caps about Wilson. If he becomes available, what are everyone's thoughts on potentially acquiring him? What do you think it would take?

,

I wouldn't say that GG was a scapegoat. The team's performance in games 3, 4, 5, and 7 were woefully underwhelming. That combined w/ what was said at the exit meetings sealed the deal. Regardless of GG, the players simply didn't have the compete level, and that's on them.

Would love Wilson!!! Can't see Caps trading him to a division rival though. Cost would be higher, if they considered trading him to NYR. A lot of cap space would have to be moved and Caps would require a young current NHLer, a good prospect, and maybe a mid round draft pick.

I think if Lafreniere and Kakko could score, there'd still be a strong feeling we could compete the next 10 years

If anyone has been watching the cup finals with an eye toward the Rangers, it’s very obvious they are nowhere near cup final performance ready.

I don’t know how Drury can fix this team to make it more harder to play against, given the softness of the top six, and the ups and downs of the “kid” line.

I’m not thrilled with the players who get a coach fired because they didn’t like his methods. Fact is, they quit on Gallant, didn’t show up for the Devils series.

Good luck Lavy.

yeah, that's probably true, but things change quickly

last year Vegas missed the playoffs and the Rangers had a great run

Ok... but that has also happened to Gallant at every stop. Columbus, Florida, Vegas, and New York. So maybe the blame is also somewhat on him?

Really think trading Panarin could be huge. Get the team out of the east/west mindset. Clear some money. Add depth. Just sucks it won’t happen

Yes, bc every single coach in the NHL has a cup. Panarin refusing to get touched when he has the puck and instead constantly turning it over is GG’s fault. Drury burdening this team with Kane which caused us to look more like a circus act than a team is also GG’s fault. Ridiculous that we’re still blaming soft players that refuse to elevate their game come playoff time on the coach. Some of these players are on their 4th coach now, it ain’t the coach.

That's the problem with the ridiculous NMC part of contracts. NO one should get a Full NMC. The max should be a 15 team no trade list. Full NMC's ALWAYS bite the team in the ass. Will GMs ever learn!!!?

I don't think this group of players can play the type of game necessary to win a cup. Its got nothing to do with elevating their game, they don't have that game
