Well, if any positive comes out of this, it goes to show that Sanheim has more value than we give him credit for. |

After the Johansen trade, the STL/PHI trade rumors leaked and Krug refused to waive Briere really didn’t have any leverage and I’m sure Hayes just wanted out at that point too. |

No they did not. Flyers currently have 8 open roster spots though, do they have enough youngsters, at the needed positions, deserving of playing time in the AHL to fill them? If Sanheim and Konecny go that could get even more glaring.
Half the board gets up in arms about rushing youngsters to soon and the other half about them being blocked from playing. How do you determine the balance? Some vets will be needed. - Flyers_01
They could also look for a reclamation project or something chicago did with Domi. One year deal, hope player plays well and then flip him at TDL. I think of someone like Max Comatois in Anaheim. If he doesn't get a QO could he be someone you bring in and see what he has for a year. He is only 24.

The flyers are years away from even looking at a playoff push, I’m not a huge Torts guy, but these moves are fine. - ClaudeFather
It's a stretch to say that they're fine. This trade is on Tortorella. He devalued an asset with his issues. |

Flyers didn’t have to buy out Hayes. Didn’t have to give up any assets to clear a contract and over 3.5 in cap space. The more cap space the better. In the meantime, maybe it’s the flyers who will be getting assets for other teams cap management issues. - mikeyo27
Good point. Can’t deny the cap space here |

He is a complimentary player that is paid like a top level player. Give his minutes to a developing player. I am good with this deal. - mickel25
what developing player you giving his minutes too?
Not his fault what he was paid. He was a productive player no matter how any tries to spin it. It is clear they wanted him gone no matter what. So in that aspect they did the best they could.

Did Torts hurt you in some way, did he touch you in a way that made you feel uncomfortable?
Why do so many people have a hard on for Torts. - WhiskeyMan
Perhaps because he is an aged, obsolete coach with personality disorders?

Three things. He has to play center. Try finding a winger winning the Selke. My favorite Selke winner was Jere Lehtinen who won it 3 times playing LW. He was tenacious, gritty, super smart, effective and never had more than 30 PIM in a season. The Stars won a Cup in 1999 with Belfour, Hatcher, Modano and Hull getting the glory. But Lehtinen scored 10 goals in the playoffs and was the key to the team. Today, like you said, you have to put up the numbers. - Minnyhock
Selke winner are normally centers. I would like him to play wing however. |

I am curious if Torts really has much say as we think. We know about hayes. But if your Briere and Jones, you have to have in your head that Torteralla is extremely unlikely to be the coach of this team when they are ready to compete. |

With Coots and Atkinson returning they have 11 forwards. I assume Cates and Frost get resigned. They have Foerster who looked like an NHL'er in his short stint last year.
A few other AHL'ers got a look last year as well. If they need to add a short term vet FA they have the money to do that now.

Of all the possibilities, Sanheim is the one I look forward to. Good player. Still had value but he is what he is. And to potentially get out from 8 years of that before July 1st.....c'mon Danny. |

I am fine with Hayes being gone. Hopefully they use the additional cap space to gain additional assets. Give Hayes' minutes to a youngster.
The Johansen and Hall trades really did not help the Flyers. - mickel25
It’s supply and demand. A buyers market right now. STL can now move Buchnevich back to wing and play Hayes at 3C. The key for the Flyers is Couturier. If he’s healthy they can be decent up the middle.

Which minutes? His minutes at center were already replaced last year. They have Atkinson, Farabee, Laughton on the LW and TK, Tippett, Foerster on the RW. Hayes is no longer needed and not a part of the future of this team. |

I dunno.. Players are conditioned to defer to the coach. Theyre both former players, maybe torts yelled at them and they buckled. |

I wish they could move coots but I doubt anyone would be willing to take him after he just missed a year. |

Don’t care about the return or the retained cap. (We shouldn’t be spending to the cap any time soon anyway) This is a big win for the tanking crowd. No more Hayes putting up meaningless numbers on a team headed nowhere. This is how you bottom out. |

He’s not likely moveable until he comes back healthy, stays healthy, and produces numbers worth of his contract. I just don’t see it happening unless you take a contract just as bad back. |

Assuming Atkinson and Coots are ready to go, there aren’t many veterans on the team. If TK and Laughts are traded for draft assets, then these kids will still need some mentors. Do the Flyers look to sign a veteran cheap FA or two just to add some mentorship? Do you look to a Lucic, Hornqvist, Stasney type to sign to be the 13th O to help out? |
