Good morning and happy Entry Draft Eve. Instead of the Christmas Eve Seven Fishes dinner, tonight calls for the Feast of the Seven Philly Foods. Menu includes Wiz Wit; Scrapple; Dinics Pork; Schmitters; Wawa Hoagies; and an assortment of Tasty Cakes all washed down with cold Yuengling.
Seems Cates is a keeper and a good young talent to help this rebuild. Great to see it’s getting some love from around the league. |

Cates finished 15th in the Selke Trophy balloting, which Boston Bruins center Patrice Bergeron captured for the sixth time in his career. Cates received one second-place, one third-place, one fourth-place and four fifth-place votes for 19 points. Bergeron (1,914 points) was the runaway winner. - bmeltzer
I'm guessing that most of the Cates loves came from voters with an analytics bent.
His old school stats don't really stick out while his fancy stats put him at the top of the league in defensive impact.

Supposedly according to Elliot Friedman John L and Cam A are trying to persuade Krug to waive his clause and come to the Flyers. |

Maybe they are having trouble convincing him that the Flyers are the "gold standard" so he should want to come here.
Hell, if i'm Krug, since the GM gave me the power, I'm picking my next destination and it certainly isn't going to Philly. Why would he listen to LeClair who has been out of hockey for 10 years and Cam who hasn't played in a year and might not even be on the team past the deadline?
What is the upside?

Job for life after his playing days are over. Krug doesn’t realize he likely has negative value at his salary and age across the league. |

There's a deal to be made with the Jets,
Flip Krug & SL
For
Wheeler 24 1st, 25 2nd rd pick
then flip Wheeler at the deadline for more assets.
Heck i would tell most of the guys i acquire that this is our time frame and if your age doesnt fit in with that then prepare to be moved. |

Jonesy has already put out the word that he can't hire any more friends as he's run out of jobs to hand out.
Then again maybe Lappy will retire and a job will open up.

The alternative is now there is a target on his back and the fans will be all over him for not waiving. St Louis is actually in a worse spot than the Flyers as far as competing anytime soon. |

Nice to know your team doesn’t want you. That only a few years into a long term commitment they are willing to move you in a salary dump. Hmmm, I wonder what Sanheim must be thinking?
At least in Philly there’s precedent…isn’t that what the Flyers did to Cater and Richards? Trade them out even before their long term deals kicked in ? |

Wrong. The player negotiated that right in his contract and free to exercise. Most fans know this and it wont be an issue. |

If the deal is dead and it’s only moving Hayes to get a low level prospect with 50% retained, Danny should just hold on to Kevin Hayes.
Bring the coach in line and have him do his job. |

You are right. Fans are very reasonable when the team is losing and have nothing but the players best interests in their mind. He might even get a standing ovation next time he causes a goal against. |

It’s the smart play by Briere. If they move Sanheim, assuming they move Hayes too the only players left with a NTC after two seasons from now is Deslauriers and Couturier. Deslauriers salary is negligible so no big deal. It will give Briere a way easier time to build the roster as he sees fit. |

According to SanFilippo the deal is dead, Krug refuses to waive his NTC to come to Philadelphia. He also mentioned that the Flyers would have to hang on to more of Hayes's salary now. |

There's so much smoke that Briere will do almost anything to draft Michkov, I'm starting to believe it is a misdirection. The "fog of war" is at hand. |

On the surface a bit crazy and teams need to be reminded these are 18 year old kids with underdeveloped prefrontal cortexes but i may see where the question was headed.
Big picture/little picture. Is the kid willing to do what it takes to win, to make himself and the team better? Can he see the big picture? Heart vs brain. |

It's his first year on the map in terms of the Selke so he did well. Strange as it sounds, to get more consideration, he needs two things to happen. He has to get better offensively and Bergeron has to retire! |

The issue with Deslauriers is not his salary. It's that he will be in the lineup and playing. |

I think it was more about trying to explore his character. Would he put his morals and beliefs aside to follow an order. He gave the right answer. Saying he would do because he was ordered to or because it was necessary to win, would've been the wrong answer. It's about what kind of teammate he would be. |

I guess they have given up on finding a third team that Krug will waive to go to? Keeping Hayes, while not a good option, is not the worst option.
It might be the worst case for Torts but not the team long term if he spends another year in the orange and black. |
