yes he should unless you want another 8 year deal for 8 per when he will be on the other side of his prime.

And if the salary cap goes up in the next couple of years and you have a team largely filled with players on rookie deals, what then? He still fits into the team’s plans as far as I see.

They also freed up $3.5mil in cap space that will hopefully be used to gain additional assets.
- mickel25

Well if they use that 3.5m to re-sign Frost then it won't be too bad, I'm worried they are going to do what the Flyers do and sign him to some longer term 5m+ contract or worse they sign a UFA to a longer term deal.

WIP host Joe DeCamara asked Jones if the Philadelphia Flyers’ rebuild would take until 2028. Would everyone have to wait more than three years for quality hockey, DeCamara asked.

“No, no you’re not,” Jones said. “The plan would be to get there sooner, obviously, than 2028.

“We have an idea where we’re going to be a much more competitive team. It’s not that far away.

“It’s not going to be unchallenging; it’s going to be. But we’re not going to be sitting, waiting around for this thing to take forever.”

...

And just because you have first-round picks doesn’t mean that you necessarily use them, as far as drafting them and developing them. It just gives you more options further down the road, whether it’s a long way down the road or a little bit shorter distance remains to be seen.

----------------

They have a 3 year timeline and Jones sounds like he's open to trading first round picks to make it shorter if need be. I don't think you can put that kind of line in the sand without causing problems to roster building.

disagree. You move him imo. Why have a guy on his way down for probably majority of those 8 years. TK is a nice player. Getting over valued to me by flyers fans.

I wouldn't trade TK unless a good return you can't pass up. Re-signing him to a long term deal before he becomes a UFA...not so smart.

He was a point per game player who elevated his game and is a skilled top-6 forward. I don’t think he’s either under or overrated by the fan base. I’d have to be blown away to move him.

They now have $10mil in cap space for York, Cates and Frost. That should be plenty to sign all three and then some.

I am always worried about a Flyers GM spending cap money like it is water. I will give DB the benefit of the doubt until he does.

If they could move ND and resign Lemieux to a one year deal that would be grand!

I may be wrong but that $10 mill needs to be divided among 8 players. Now they may all be league min players but that severely cuts into the amount available.

I feel the same exact way. They can't afford to overpay young players based on hope.

If they can dump Deangelo (2.5m) and Sanheim (6.2m) then sit on it I will be very happy. If they go into season the next few years trying to dump salary they are going to be the same spot.

50% retention on Hayes, ouch! But it’s addition by subtraction for the Flyers. Now they need to trade Laughton for another 1st round pick and jump start this rebuild. The Flyers need another 1st or 2nd round pick in this draft!

Not really. They have 11 forwards (including Coots, Atkinson, Frost, Cates) and five D-men (Sanheim, Risto, York, Walker and Seeler) and three goalies. Frost, Cates and York will eat up some of that $10mil as they need to be resigned but they are fine in terms of filling out the roster. At least IMHO.

So they need a d-man and a forward or two. All of which could be moved up from the Phantoms. Or they could be added to the roster after you LTIR Ellis on the first day of the new season.

Perhaps because he is an aged, obsolete coach with personality disorders?

MJL throwing out personality disorder accusations is top tier internet irony for the day.

Yeah they just need cap flexibility from year to year. Spending to the cap is fine. Having so many longterm contracts you cannot make moves in the offseason is not.

Dumping TA for anything and freeing up that $2.5mil could be huge for the Flyers. They can use that space to gain assets by helping facilitate deals.
