Hayes had a really good first half of the season and then due to how he was being used and treated. Basically checked out in the second half. - MJL
So if this was simply the Flyers mis-usage of Hayes, how do you explain such a nothing return the Flyers got even though the Flyers covered half his remaining salary? Either the leaks of the trade meant teams knew the Flyers had to trade him and thus the Flyers had no leverage, or every GM in the league knows where the game of hockey is today and where its going, and understands completely Hayes has a very limited NHL role moving forward. I honestly thought if the Flyers covered half the salary they could get a 4th round pick this year, but clearly that was not even possible. |

And so should the Flyers be out on Michkov. I said it months ago, with the uncertainty in Russia with players and the experience the Flyers just had with Fodotov, I can't see the Flyers risking their 7th pick on this player. Now I will openly admit I am biased against Russian players. I think they are dogs for the most part and I don't believe you can win if your best player is a Russia player. I don't mean to be predudice in any way, just giving my opinion. It's not personal. I know people will cry Ovechkin, Ovechkin, Ovechkin but for all the talent that player has, he is not a winner IMO and has only won one cup in 18 seasons, and that only happened because he bought in to Trotz's system for one season. IMO the best thing for the Flyers is if Michkov is selected in the top 6, because then that means a really good player will be there for the Flyers at 7. If Michkov is there for the Flyers at 7, I stay clear of him, but of course I don't let the Caps know that in case they want to pay to move up one spot. - jd250

give me a break. never the player's fault under Torts apparently - black_francis
It’s never the player’s fault! I tried that in school with my teachers and they straightened me out fast. I didn’t like it then but as I grew up I appreciated them teaching me how the world works.
I wonder what Owen Tippet thinks of Torts? |

A lot of people upset about Salary retention slots with the Hayes trade. Can someone explain to me what the big deal is? I was hoping they wouldn’t have to eat half his salary to get rid of him, but what difference does it really make? Im not up on the minutiae of the cap, but it looks like teams can retain salary on a max of 3 players. How many slots are the flyers using? They pretty much had to move Hayes (Torts saw to that) and no one was taking that entire salary anyway. No matter what the deal was they were going to use up a slot. So why’s it an issue? |

Do you know how many players play their entire career and never win the Cup once? Should I or do I have to list all the Russian players who were top players on teams that have won Cups? I understand being leery of drafting him due to the issues and the potential issues but otherwise. Your reasoning makes little sense. There is no basis for believing that you can't win if your best player is Russian. |

Simple. The entire league knew that the Flyers had to move Hayes, so therefore they had the Flyers and Briere over a barrel. Briere did well not to have to give up a quality player asset to move him.
Now I have some questions for you regarding your past opinions regarding Hayes. Over and over you posted that with the Flyers retaining salary, that there was going to be a strong market for Hayes. Even suggesting that the Bruins were going to take him for the ridiculous reason that he was from that area. What happened to all of that? |

You can't win with Russian players as your best players. Have to give a break though. TB's Cup wins were a long time ago. Anyone could forget.

The issue is that the Flyers retained 50% of his salary for three years and still got squat for him. |

No, it's not all Tortorella's fault but he didn't help any and that was his job. He hurt the team with how he handled Hayes. - MJL
thank god or we wouldve been drafting 11th instead of 7th

Two things:
1. The Bruins are still waiting for Bergeron and Krejci to tell them what they are going to do this year, which is crazy to me since the people I talk to all say both players are leaning to not coming back.
2. The cap did not go up the projected $3M-$4M so teams are just strapped right now. |

There was never any chance that the Bruins were going to take Hayes. You were told that. The people you talk to. LOL The cap was not projected to go up 3-4M. It was projected to go up 1M. The only way it would go up more is if the Players escrow was fully paid back. Which was not projected to happen.
Again, where was this large market for Hayes that you predicted? Over and over no matter how many times people such as myself told you it wasn't going to happen. |
