Lesson of the day:
Don't sign players who have no value to long term contracts.
I keep going back to the JvR and Hayes signings. Terrible, terrible contracts from the beginning, yet the reasoning is you have to pay for the demand, but was there really demand? |

You can certainly argue that they weren't good signing but players with no value? That's an extreme stretch. |

There isn't a coach out there that was going to "use Hayes better" LMAO
and if there is he's probably someone so young and innovative, you just haven't told us who yet |

What did JvR get? Hayes? Ghost? Quite the coincidence that the Flyers have had so much issues with "no value" players.
I would think the Flyers have someone smart to think ahead and ask themselves when signing/re-signing a player...can we move them later if we have to?
Sometimes not signing someone is a better option. I am still thankful Gaudreau was never signed, I like him, but would of been terrible. |

The no thanks at the deadline to jvr at the end of his tenure was pretty telling |

Rangers seemed pretty quick to unload Hayes and Winnipeg pretty much had no interest in re-signing him before the playoffs ended. I have a hard time believing another team was going to give Hayes that term with the money like the Flyers.
I think if the Flyers truly correct the problems with the organization I feel like they need to stop giving out sucker deals, which is probably what attracted many players in the past.

What did JVR get? Five years after he was signed? When he was signed, he was coming off a 36 goal season and he had no value?
I definitely agree that sometimes not signing someone is a better option. No doubt but that doesn't mean that the Flyers signed players that had no value. |

The Flyers need to stop trying to build the team by signing UFA players. Build through the draft, make smart trades and supplement to fill holes at the right time with UFA's if necessary. |

The Flyers have had bad luck with Russians and that is a fact. Out of the 26 Russian players that they have drafted since 1995 (or something like that) 19 of them NEVER played in the NHL. It's bad...really bad! |

How many Russian players did the Flyers draft in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounds?
Looked it up. I count 7. |

I don't believe the narrative that players come to the Flyers and lose all their value. Even in Toronto during his career 36 goal season he was a PP specialist that played sparing minutes on the 3rd line. Comes to Flyers for 1st line money. No other team was giving him 7m a year...NO OTHER TEAM.

He was getting 17 minutes under Babcock in the regular season and yet only managed 14 minutes average per playoff game. Not a good signing by Hextall. He signed a big softie and then Chuckles followed it up by signing another big softie (Hayes) to a 7 year contract. The last two GMs here absolutely sucked. No other way to look at it. Danny has his work cut out for him to clean up the mess from the last 2 GMs here. |

That's a different argument than they had no value. We also don't know for a fact that no other team would.

So Deangelo (50% retained) to Carolina for Rizzo? I'm assuming that's the deal. |

Not receiving a QO from Anaheim. If it was a 1-2 yr term for a tryme price, I would be interested. |
