I'm thinking you keep him if you don't get a better return. It's not like he can't play. Maybe a better deal comes along at the TDL or the draft next year.
Half the teams are capped out right now. Everyone talks about the cap going up significantly next year. If teams have more breathing room then his value changes.
If you feel he had to go, right now, no matter the return, then ok but I think they should've held onto him instead of selling at his lowest point. - Flyers_01
Exactly. The Cult of Tortorella is in full effect here. The narrative that Hayes is this lazy, toxic player that is radioactive to the Flyers rebuild is complete bullpoop.
Have not spent much time, but I wonder out of York, Cates, and Frost- does anyone get a multi yr deal. I would like to see York get a multi yr deal. He could be a great value 2nd pair Dman for many years. - Trox88
After this and the incoming TDA trade more will come to realize how important it was for the Flyers to sack Tortorella right out of the gate. - StepfordSam
The flyers are years away from even looking at a playoff push, I’m not a huge Torts guy, but these moves are fine.

Did Torts hurt you in some way, did he touch you in a way that made you feel uncomfortable?
After all the anticipation and excitement of a larger trade on Saturday, this just feels meh. 6th round pick for 50% retained for a guy coming off a 54 point season seems a little underwhelming.
The positive is that Danny is clearing out the old core and starting with a real rebuild.

He brought a senators team to what, game 7 of the eastern conference finals. You do know that one player doesn’t make a team correct? Offense is also apart of playing the D position - ClaudeFather
Well for starters, Ottawa was 5 plus years ago.
As for one player not being the reason a team wins, it’s been beaten to death the effect Patrice Bergeron has on Boston. Bergeron isn’t one of the best players in the league but he’s most certainly the most balanced. What he brings in small detail outside of offense translates to winning. All situations, best in the business at the dot, positionally sound.
I named the categories Karlsson should be stronger at. Does he make his team better or pad his own stats? We had Ghost and Provorov together, who was better in their time in Philly?
I almost think I would rather they have kept him for another year and tried again next offseason or at the deadline. Now they have a retention slot for three more seasons.
Oh well.
A 6th round pick is meh at best IMO. For 50% retention........
I get the feeling Torts was of the frame of mind to just get him out of here, I don't care what we get. Addition by subtraction or whatever, and Briere felt like he was backed in to a corner. - MBFlyerfan
that was his attitude from day 1. He choose not to make it work

The issue is that Tortorella isn't going to be around when they are competitive again. So why is he allowed to have any influence on this team whatsoever?
Time to make the right deals from a position of strength is a luxury Danny Briere needs to rebuild the right way. Tortorella saying certain players are so toxic that they can't be around for a minute longer puts them at a disadvantage.
It's his first year on the map in terms of the Selke so he did well. Strange as it sounds, to get more consideration, he needs two things to happen. He has to get better offensively and Bergeron has to retire! - MJL
Three things. He has to play center. Try finding a winger winning the Selke. My favorite Selke winner was Jere Lehtinen who won it 3 times playing LW. He was tenacious, gritty, super smart, effective and never had more than 30 PIM in a season. The Stars won a Cup in 1999 with Belfour, Hatcher, Modano and Hull getting the glory. But Lehtinen scored 10 goals in the playoffs and was the key to the team. Today, like you said, you have to put up the numbers.

I doubt Torts will be here when the big "winning" starts.

You have an issue with Kevin Hayes being jettisoned from the team? Even if it was at Torts request, I’m totally fine with it

Why do so many people have a hard on for Torts. - WhiskeyMan
because he is out of touch with todays game. He is a petulant child. He clearly has too much say when he shouldn't. Wants a certain kind of player that you will never win with. Had to be told to play younger players. Not hard to see why he isn't a fit in the nhl in 2023

mixed on the deal with Hayes, part of me wanted it to play out till the TDL, hoping Hayes played well. The other part is no other assets gone, and we the retention does mean much the next 3 years. Hayes did have value, Blues believed he did and wanted him, I do think on the right team he will have a good season.
