Assuming they punt Murray and re-up Sammy they've got about ~8M to spend on two forwards. Bertuzzi, Domi, Tartar ...?
The Klingberg signing makes me less hopeful of a deal for Pesce or Hanafin.
Does anyone have any nice fancy stats to make me feel better about Klingberg? Last I saw of him he was getting tossed around by Matt Tkachuk. Perfect ....

Bertuzzi
Domi

The Canadian tax thing I don't get...
One of my sisters and husband and 4 kids make about 550 a yr... live over in forest hill south and have no problem having a great life in Toronto taxes and all.
So I don't see how a single guy or even a family guy making over a mil and most times way way more have any concern at all with this tax issue that some are making it out to be.
It is probably a complete non factor to these guys.. - dozerD10
Canadian teams are on all no-trade lists. That’s according to former gm’s like Burke, Futa, and Doug MacLean |

PP specialist. Turnstile. Can't check his hat. Doesn't handle aggressive forechecking well. Not physical. So.... perfect for the Leafs D. |

And if they did nothing at the deadline you’d be whining about that. What would make you feel better about the team fifty? |

I've been advocating balancing the $ out on this roster FOR YEARS. That means moving one or more of the soft superstars. |

That might work but it could also be a disaster. |

Listened to Burkie yesterday and he said they called it the Toronto million. Always had to beat teams by a million because of the taxes and costs of living. That sucks.

A least you didn't say "this is why we can't have nice things".
"Nice" indeed. Too nice and easy to play against. |

With the way Reaves contract is structured it is not a 35 plus contract.
He can retire or other alternatives of getting out of the contract without a penalty.
Klingberg is 1 year.
On a day where we saw 6.25M going to an eventual 38 year old Killorn...be thankful so far. |

4.5m gets you plenty specially if you are already a millionaire and you're gonna make another 9m over the next two years. - Fakepartofme
There are marked advantages financially and culturally to live in Nashville over Toronto. That is all. |

It’s the price of doing business in Toronto. But our own fans will complain that our players are getting paid more than Florida players. There’s no choice in the matter. |

It’s really hard to acquire star players. Especially ones that want to stay. Trading one scares me because we could end up in the Sundin era, one star and a bunch of plugs. |

Yeah, I’m not getting the visceral hate from day 1 of free agency. None of these deals cripple the Leafs in any way. And all or none of these players can be moved or buried.
Klingberg ends up as Barrie 2.0? See ya in March at the trade deadline.
Reaves doesn’t have an impact? Easily moved or he retires and goes into broadcasting or podcasting with the Chiclets crew.
Kampf? Same thing.
We’ve been able to ship out significantly more dead weight in the past. |

Thought experiment: we keep two stars. Let's say, Matthews and Marner. You still have Rielly. You trade Nylander and force out Tavares. Yes, it takes big boy pants. But imagine the balanced roster you could build with all of that. Don't be scared. |

Yep, there were no moves that are going to create issues.
Klingberg is a good gamble, it was free.
Worst case you add at the deadline and use his contract as a cap dump. |

With what though? This free agency group is poop.
We would lose every trade, particularly with Tavares. We would have to retain a pile of salary. Look at Karlsson, that’s not going to be an easy move. |

You could take draft picks/prospects for Willy that you can use in trade for players you like. For Tavares, what you're getting in return is cap space primarily. That is a HUGE (frank)ing asset. Take a look at our capped out roster.
The way I see it, the plan right now is short term stuff waiting until Tavares' contract expires and the cap goes up. We will not be much of a contender the next two years imo as Tavares continues to diminish and we can't find a goddam dollar to spend. |

All you can make are assumptions, as in the player’s decision, but it does not look good at all that ROR left when it’s reported that the Leafs were willing to go that AAV and term. That contract is super reasonable. What did ROR not like? Spoiled kids? Really tough start imo for the Treliving era. With Klingberg signed and Sammy still out there, I don’t see how this team gets better than last year, at least on paper. - iTOLDu
I think it's pretty clear ROR wanted to be top dog somewhere, and not a 3rd string afterthought.
Plus, he's a big guitar and music guy, so Nashville makes complete sense. |

JT has a NMC.
If he doesn't want to go there is no moving him.
You can't move him. |
