They attacked his father, made Mitch feel hurt, demand he get traded, always cry when Willy doesn’t get to play with AM34 etc. Remember how awful they were when Mitch was off to a slow start? Mitch set records that year. Almost got 100 pts. Was nominated for the Selke. Then goes on and puts up 14 pts on 11gp and was a +7.

American born players need to be a target. Matthews for instance only makes the league minimum $750K a year while in Toronto at 53.53% and gets the rest of his salary on July 1 as a “signing bonus” while living in Arizona at 39.5%

Lets not pretend for even a second that Marner didn't do that to himself. Or more accurately; his agent did it to him. Negotiating that entire ordeal through the media and that Muppet Dreger. It was absolutely gutless on his agents part, but it worked for them and got Marner millions over all of his comparables.

There are Team Willy & Team Mitchy fans. Both sides are unreasonable on their criticisms of the other player. Blows my mind. Sell high on Nylander, absolutely.

I would rather keep Nylander and trade Tavares but Shanahan is an idiot and put this team in this bad situation.

If Nylander can get you a top-4 D (or even Hellebuyck) and clear enough cap space to still sign another 20-30 goal winger, you have to do it and give Matthews the biggest contract in the NHL so he stays long term.

Brodie, Nylander and Murray can give the Leafs 17 million in cap space.

5 million on D, 5 million on a RW and 7 million for Hellebuyck and the Leafs are a way better team over night.

The Leafs need to make a trade with Calgary. The Flames aren't on Willy's list of places not to go. The Leafs should target Nikita Zadorov and Elias Lindholm. Willy and a prospect might get it done. With their combined salary, they cover Willy's cap hit. See if the Leafs could off load either Murray's contract or Muzzin's. It would free up money for another deal, if need be.
