Is this the first time a 2nd generation has played for the Leafs?

I’m thinking it must have happened before, but I can’t think of an example.

Edit: found an article that said it will be the 9th time in franchise history, but didn’t name the others.

In the 1987 Canada Cup, on the game-winning goal, Gretzky didn’t pass to either Holl or Murphy - electing instead to pass it to Lemieux.

From a 2021 Toronto Sun 🤮 article:

But all things being relative here, the elder’s shadow has been tough to escape in T.O. If the eight player links — nine if counting general manager/coach Punch Imlach sprinkling son Brent into three games in the ’60s — the fathers won five Stanley Cups, the sons none. Clancy, Imlach, Gardner, Charlie Conacher and Babe Pratt got to touch it, while Terry, Brent, Paul, Pete and Tracy, respectively, did not.
Barry and brother Brian Cullen just missed being part of the early ’60s Leafs dynasty, while Mike Foligno and John Cullen were teammates on the ’93 Leafs who were a win away from the final.

So tree says Domi has wanted to play in Toronto for a long time

Heavy rumours he was willing to sign for cheap last year

Punting Kerfoot and adding Domi was always there, glad Tree finally did it

Leafs haven’t had a prospect as good as Hutson since Matthews was drafted.

I don’t want an entire team of smurfs. But a couple of them isn’t the end of the world.

I'm liking the 2nd day moves. A lot of complaining in here on day 1 for signing just Reaves. Then added Klingberg later, who if I remember right was a hot ticket around here a few years ago, but still no happiness. Then day two added Bert and Domi, (frank)ing nice adds by the way, and still some complaining.

As far as the top 6 goes:

Domi >> Bunting (and I liked Bunting)

Bertuzzi >>>> Bunting

Domi/Bertuzzi >> Jarnkrok in the top 6.

Klingberg >> Holl

Reaves >>>> Simmonds and then all of the other face punchers and he can actually play a little bit too. He's not McJesus but Reaves can skate, hit, make some passes, get greasy goals in front of the net and he never takes a shift off. I (frank)ing love this signing for the Leafs.

We ALL have seen the Leafs in the playoffs last bunch of years. RoR types...JT clones...are not what the team needs. Acciari/Schenn types for sure. But they're not getting players on par with the Thachuk brothers....they don't exist and couldn't afford them if they did. The next tier down is Bertuzzi and Domi types and they got them. Nice moves.

If they could do a swap for Brodie to a tougher version of Brodie, hard ass cross checking RD with a clapper, this might be a good team with a very real shot. (Lose Murray to keep Willy.)

I still think the 1 year revolving door deals do not help the team become a TEAM. Maybe they can gel together quickly this year and make some noise and then ALL get re-signed when the Cap goes up and really (frank) some poop up year 2?!?

I would like to see some version of the Leafs stay assembled for a couple of years. This line up for a few years could work, (a nice gritty tweak on the LD next year after Gio's done)

Bertuzzi, Matthews, Marner
Domi/Knies, JT, Nylander
Knies/Domi, Kampf, Jarnkrok
Lafferty, Holmberg, Reaves

Reilly, Zadorov
McCabe, Klingberg
Gio, Lily
Timmins

Sammy
Woll

I actually like it. This is the balls I've been screaming about needing to see dangling around the rink for years. Much tougher squad with all of the Core intact and surrounded by players that DON'T get pushed around AT ALL yet have skill.

This is a much more balanced line up and I'm surprised they could get it done without losing one of the Core.

Edit: can Keefe coach this line up the right way is the ONLY questions in my mind??!?!!?!

Kerfoot is of course free to do whatever the hell he wants, but I have a hard time respecting a guy who would go to Arizona instead of staying in Toronto for a little less money.

They won’t be competitive for the next five years.
