Okay! LOL. What I actually said it that if they would get a good offer, then by all means move him. Which I never thought would happen. The most likely offer for a 6/7 average tweener defenseman would be something like a 6th round pick, future considerations or a middling low level prospect. If so, then there is more value in keeping him around as he is the kind of player you want on your roster as a rebuilding team. The extra year on his deal at the time also limited the market.

McD, OV, Pat Kane, Kucherov, EK, Panarin, MacKinnon, Pasta, Malkin.... some guys you can just shrug off that they don't play defense because their other contributions are just so overwhelmingly strong.

That’s what did it for Steve Yzerman as a player. He put up a ton of points early in his career and Detroit had little success. He evolved and became a great 2-way player, eventually winning the Selke. His evolution was a big reason behind Detroits success starting in the 90’s.

It’s not all on McDavid but a small evolution to his game might make a world of difference. In a cap era with how much he costs, it’s not unreasonable to suggest he make small adjustments.
