I think he traded 2 guys he wasn't planning on resigning and i think that is a great move.

I feel also unlike Justin Fields Poles really didn't help him in any way last year, KD went and got Hall to be a top linemate with Bedard and Foligno to be a player coach on this team.

These are really good moves and it didn't cost him anything.

And his ability to keep accumulating picks is outstanding.

The pessimistic fan says most of these players won't amount to anything, what if they do?

- BetweenTheDots

Poles couldn't help Fields last year due to cap problems KD didn't have. Now that Poles has fixed his cap problems he's gone all in on Fields.

That is an excellent point, i definitely didn't want them over spending on Kirk, but it does look like he was more of a positive than a negative for the Jags

For a pisser and moaner, you''re an all right guy. LOL. Thanks for the report. Please fill us in what you see after you and your son watch the video.

Piss and moan. Kind of a weird saying don't you agree.

Think about the origins, makes me a a little uneasy, and even a little queasy when you think about it.

Does make me laugh here though

On those pissers and moaners, We will never all agree on everything, but everyone is entitled to their opinion and interpretation of how things are going.

I don't agree with some others opinions on current state of rebuild but, respect their opinion to read them and think about them.

Seems like a long way away to figure out if current trajectory is right, but it won't be that long. I definitely believe a player like Bedard speeds up a rebuild by at least a year, maybe two. You'll know during the season after next if KD is doing the right things and moving in the right direction, even if the team isn't ready to win a cup that season.

The NHL draft is over and my "Blackhawks" got their man
It was the first piece of "Kyle Davidson's" plan
Luck was certainly with us when we ended up with the first selection
This should be the start of my team's resurrection

In case you didn't know, "Connor Bedard" was the cherished prize
He can't do it all himself, we still need other guys
There is no more "Toews" and "Kane", the last of their championship teams
Hopefully we will be adding more pennants to the "United Center" beams

They now have so many young players in their system eager to play
I am really looking forward to opening day
Last year was hard for me because I wanted them to tank the season
It was in the interest of the team, so you can't charge me with treason

We now have a major cornerstone to build on to form a strong foundation
This will help to alleviate the past few years we suffered in frustration
They have to spend some money just to reach the cap floor
That is why we have the leeway to experiment some more

"Taylor Hall", "Nick Foligno" and "Corey Perry" are all ready to take the ice
This year the funds are flexible and they can afford the extra price
If history repeats itself, things can only get better from here
They will have to prove it by getting better every year

I am not getting too excited, I know that it will take some time
Have some good team mates in place when "Bedard" reaches his prime
It reminds me when "Toews" and "Kane" first donned the "Blackhawks" sweater
From that time on, "Chicago" was destined to get better

It's like a jigsaw puzzle where every piece has to fit in the right space
I will be satisfied enough if they manage to stay out of last place
There are a lot of teams in this league that this season is make or break
They have spent millions of dollars every year and their reputation is at stake

They have "tanked" in every opportunity they got
So much is dependent on your draft picks and the free agents you bought
So many franchises have tried for years to get to that final bout
Now they are at the point when they know their time is running out

I see a lot of them just giving in and going for broke
Teams have the chemistry but always seem to choke
This is their final year for them to win the crown
Next year my team will be rising while they will be falling down

It's nice to see my "Blackhawks" finally sticking to a plan
They have stood behind this "General Manager" and "Davidson" is their man
Here's hoping that "Bedard" live up to all his fame
As for me I am planning on watching each and every game

Poles knows they aren't ready to win a Lombardi, he needs at least 1 if not 2 more drafts to build the talent pool. That's why he's not spending big on FAs right now. Lets hope KD follows that plan.

NFL guys don't have the luxury of 50 guys in the system ready to move in over the next 3 years, they have to be better at judging talent, and their picks have to perform 5 months after they are drafted. NHL guys have that luxury of more time to adjust on the fly.

On the flip side though, a NFL teardown and rebuild can be accomplished in a much shorter period of time if you are good, and get a bit lucky.

Oh boy. Today's hot rumor from Ek.

Nylander to the Isles and Brodie to the Hawks as a cap dump. Then Leafs go after Karlsson with Hawks retaining some of the cap hit.

There was an article a couple weeks ago that in football a team can accrue cap space for future years. IF the time comes to sign Fields to a huge long term contract the money Poles isn't spending now he can use later. Another reason not to overpay, even though they have plenty of space.

Wow some crazy sh!t coming out about Northwestern football and Pat Fitzgerald.

Lets see if all the sanctimonious Chicago sports talk show hosts give him the same treatment as they gave the Hawks organization (except for McD of course).

I don't know that they had Cap problems so much (Poles/The Bears) as he was trying to do something similar to what KD did and get rid of some contracts that would give them a clean slate and more flexibility for this season.

Like Dots mentions, they had money to sign a big name receiver, but Fields wasn't their pick. I think Poles wanted to see if there was something there before investing in assets to put around him.

He also set himself up nicely in the trade with CAR to get an extra 1st rounder in '24. Gives them some draft capital in case Fields doesn't pan out to be the franchise QB they've been looking for since the 1940's.

I think they will be treated similarly initially but if I were a betting man their ire will dissipate sooner for NU than it has for the Hawks. Just a guess, but outside the morning show on The Score none of the hosts really want to talk hockey anyway, so as long as they have their reason not to...

It is a little easier in the NFL as you are not drafting 18-19 yr olds. There is more maturity and tape on NFL draftees, not to mention aside from the differences in the different divisions, college football is one giant level playing field.

When did hazing turn sexual? What happened to shaving a ridiculous haircut and taping them to a goalpost, or making them sing the fight song?

I am team piss and moan however some great news.

Cooking classes are over and all of the young forwards were on the ice today at 5/3 8am after our 630am skate ended.

They were working continouss 2 on 1's out of the corner where each guy takes 3 reps F1 then F2 then defender. Watched 15 minutes. First time ever, the guards asked us to not stand next to the glass. After years of watching like this they told us the Hawks have requested we stop. I like the attention to detail whoever is on it.

No surprise, Bedard's hand and shifty skating stood out. Moore and Nazar were wearing full shields. Moore looked very solid and thicker on the ice than he did on the red carpet. Moves like a pro player. Didn't get that on first impression of Nazar. Bedard's defense was equally impressive. He can bend, keep the shaft of stick on the ice and change skating directions. He hunted every loose puck each rep.

The other forwards all wore half shields indicating CHL guys and I will have to wait to show the video to my kid to see which ones they are. One guy was wearing a San Diego Gulls jersey and Ducks pants. Between drill he was working on shooting lefty and righty.

Pucks explode off of their sticks. They were very serious.

Whenever anyone scored a nice goal they all were fist bumping the shooter.

All of these forwards are approximately the same height.

During the week Vlasic and Murphy are skating after us and they both appear to be twice the size of the group this morning.

- stevefrmglencoe

Watching as many Steel camps I have over the last 15 yrs that some didn't have rosters I found that thru process of elimination my best chance of identifying who is who was thru the color of their helmets and pants as to which team they play(ed) for. Didn't always work but sometimes did.

Awesome to read something on the new draftees but you didn't mention any goalies. An oversight or you don't know who was playing goal?

Kubalik b level defensive prospect conditional 1st and 4th. Conditions of the 1st is the better of Boston or Detroit's 1st in next year's draft. Imo underwhelming return imo.

I find the timing of this very questionable. Recently there was a report or meeting about the rebuild of Ryan field and many people don't want it. And why didn't this player go to a major news media?
