it is funny how as tried and tru Blackhawks fan, I started fan boyng that the sudden influx of three outside (oh Bedard...4) players was going to start the climb in the standings...maybe not to the center of the non playoff pack, but close!

It was because except for my vile dislike for cheap shot Perry, I really liked the NHL player adds.

then I come back down to Earth.

But we all have to respect the grizzle the team has upfront.

I think the play of the young defenders from Vlasic, to Kaiser (Remember, I thought Vlasic should have played all last year with the parent club...and think Kaiser can handle the rigors of NHL full time indoctrination, but watch, he needs up in Rockford for much of the time.)

There are only FOUR NHL defenseman rostered, so that means besides Vlasic, there is plenty of audition time for Isaak Phillips, Filip Roos, and the young stable of left handers and LhRD Nolan Allan to get some games in.

Kevin Korchinski's play (when in possession in his end) will decide his future as a returnee or a starter, not a press box sitter.

I guess I come down to earth knowing Mrzazek will hold the net until Söderblom take sit from him.

Didn't LR say that Korchinski could skate in the NHL? I get the feeling there will be a lot of auditioning for the remaining defensemen spots beyond the four listed on CapFriendly.

And as much as we talk about moving players at the deadline, they still have to stay above the floor. And they only have two salary retention spots to use for the next two seasons.

Bedard, Reichel, T. Johnson, Hall, AA, Donato, D!ckinson, Raddysh, Foligno, Perry, Katchouk are more or less given as 11 forwards. So probably two more. Kurashev is management’s favorite. I would like to see Anderson gets the first look.

I think for Kevin Korchinski, it only matters if he plays minutes. As long as he is playing enough, that will be fine for his development. Worst thing will be having him not playing enough. They could have him in the NHL, because they can afford to play him, they won't be winning much anyway.

I don't think the Hawks ruined Boqvist or Joki either, just that neither player was ever going to live up to fan hype.

Jokiharju was basically close to a high water mark when he was moved.
Low and behold Buffalo is looking to improve their rearguards by his replacement or relegation to the bottom pair.

Boqvist, well I don't know were to begin. the headshots helped do him in.
You think like Florida's Gus Forsling, he can mature and play admirably on a contender?
Because right now his success is based on the support he gets around his play, and maybe that starts to work out with the additional defenseman there and the return of their true #1 Werenski, from injury.

I don't have it front of me but seemed like the Hawks last year hung around in a lot more games than I anticipated. So for that reason....I think they'll be competitive night in and night out. Does that correlate to points in the standings? Hard to say as they will continue to be a young team, and make dumb mistakes.

For me....I don't care about the wins/losses. More so about the development of younger players and how they are trending so when these young kids all start to "get it" we have a good core of players and I think guys like Perry, Foligno and Hall will help in different ways teach that.

I am also very curious to see how a guy like Reichel does this year. Last year of ELC....he's no longer the shiny penny given the arrival of Bedard....kid could come in with a bit of chip and hopefully take another big step forward in regards to his development. Any at 25 or younger...really is who I care about. Great if some guys at 28+ have a great season, but will they still be here when it's time to make a run? Don't think so.

Biggest challenge Davidson will do is when to sell high on a kid who's not progressing the way the organization feels he should, and of course dealing veterans along the way.

He did and very well could skate top 4 minutes and learn on the job similar to what keith and Seabrook did with Yawney. If the kid is ready, I can't see them not taking him opening night but instead skating some turd like Tinordi instead.

It'll be an interesting year for sure. I am more concerned about the older D men vs the younger ones. All are just clown cars in their own end. Hopefully, at least 2 are long gone after the deadline.

Hard to say? Neither was NHL ready on a winning team. They were boys playing against men.

Korchinski was a third pairing defenseman against the best in the WJC, Allen and Del Mastro looked better. He may be able to skate at the NHL level but is he ready physically, skill wise and his maturity? This isn’t to suggest Korchinski is bad or that he won’t one day be in the NHL, but that he’s still very young and possibly not ready for the NHL. Let’s see him progress at his pace, if that means he makes the team out of camp great, but right now I think he’s behind a few other Hawk prospects.

I dont know if you play Bedard on the big team this year other than a drawn out 9 game deal. Take the temperature of the team. If they look good maybe he stays in or if he looks great. Take thos 9 games up to the WJC, send him there. Send him back to junior. Get him stronger and understanding the daily grind and save a year of his entry. Unless all the pieces fall together or he's close to dominant at the NHL level. There are too many knuckleheads in the NHL that'll take runs at him. Not knowing players like him bring the tide up and all the boats with it.

Millions of dollars of ticket sales since the lottery then even more after the actual draft, his sweater flying off the shelves and other business ventures make it difficult if not impossible to send him down. Not to mention that other than possibly physically and defensively he’s more than ready for the NHL.

You have some good points, especially saving a year of his ELC but this is where business will supersede.
