Sharp always seemed to be trying to put himself in scoring position. I don't see that in Kurashev. Sharp also had a quick release and an accurate shot.

Ben Chiarot and Andrew Copp's deals....
- HawkintheD

He just completed his 5th draft with Detroit, yet had to do these moves (plus Holl) in a desperate attempt to even make the playoffs in year FIVE. And, has he drafted ANY cornerstone players for a Cup contender? Maybe one?

Some Gold Standard.

It is hilarious someone who asks these questions here is termed a hater by what can only be described as a Stevie Y boot licker.

There's a YouTube floating around Connor Bedard was unhappy with the unconventional Hawks development camp. He wanted more on ice time.

Wow. A 10 yr old, juvenile?!?! Too bad you feel that way from what I consider a not meant to be much post but since you do I won't try and change that.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess. VABear and Mo proudly stood up and said they were Wings haters and took the post in the spirit it was meant.

Lol. Completely untrue; and, assuming you can read, you know it.

Great point. Yzerman has yet to make the playoffs. The best pieces he has to show for this five year process are Seider, Raymond, Bergren, and I believe his name is Ericson. Danielson could be a missing piece. Veleno and Zadina have lived up to zero of their hype. Rasmussen is just ok. I thought Hronek was solid but he got dealt.

Debrincat is a steal but they still don’t have that elite 1C, Larkin is a very good player who isn’t in the conversation with McDavid, MacKinnon, Matthews, etc.

I think Yzerman is a good GM, but so far the luck in Detroit hasn’t unearthed the same later round finds like he had in Tampa.

IF this is true, and he still wants to be involved with hockey and the Hawks specifically, then now is the when it would be acceptable to bring him back (IMO).

He is obviously a wealth of knowledge. I just think if he was going to try and play, it would be far too big of a distraction on this team.

I think the term “luck” is apropos when discussing late round gems. After all any GM who drafted a guy in a later round bypassed him in earlier rounds. I’d give a GM who finds a very good player in the sixth round the same credit I’d give KD for selecting Bedard … ZERO! It’s pure luck in each case.

In what capacity do you think he should come back? In the Front office, as a coach or …?

Still disagree with this. If healthy, it wasn't an overpay.
- vabeachbear

Agree with you. 2013 "Playoff" Bickell was a bargain at 4 x $4 and if healthy would have stayed at that level.

He played hardball once with Stamkos and is a legend. Think what they'd be saying had Stamkos gone to Toronto.

Along those lines, Stevie Y drafted Kucherov in the 2nd round in 2011. Vladislav Namestnikov was picked in the 1st round. So, he passed up Kucherov, too. Had he known how good of a player Kucherov would become, I'd assume Stevie Y takes him in round one.

Right, like I ever fully think through an idea before I post.

I wouldn’t be upset with a player development role I guess? Really hadn’t thought it out past just the conditions under which I think he should be brought back (if at all). Maybe I just didn’t want to see him struggle to make it through another season. With all the distraction that would bring.

I feel for Toews, I'm sure he didn't see himself retiring like this. I hope he's able to find a solution that helps him so he can live out his adult years without being tired all the the time.

No, adding context does not make one a hater. In fact I very much appreciate context and nuance for most any subject. IMO very little, if anything, is black and white and quite frankly I didn't follow NHL hockey (boycotted Dollar Bill for 23 yrs) like some here so context is helpful to me.

As far as Stevie Y, I'm a fan. Not as much for his results but how he goes about his business. He's old school and conducts himself like a man. Just like that CAR coach, I like and respect his way...... And since he drafted one of my all time jrs favs, Robert Mastrosimone, I've lost the hate I had for Detroilet. I could not hate a team that kid played for but it looks like he's not gonna be an NHLer.

I do not post as much as many but believe I've posted I would never knock a person for his/her fandom so for whatever reason someone doesn't dig Stevie Y, or anyone/team, you'll get no pushback from me.

- Mr Ricochet

I consider you a hockey nut (in a good way); someone who has in-depth knowledge of prospects and is generally very analytical about the game. Now I find out that your unabashed love for Stevie Y is NOT because of his results; but rather about him "acting like a man"? Ya think ya know someone...

I think he should be a coach. Just think of the benefit Bedard would have having Toews whispering in his ear. Maybe he could be a roving coach once the prospects are signed.

Wasn't he interested in politics at one time? Maybe he'll move back to Canada and pursue that profession. He could sell his Chicago condo to Bedard.

Agreed

If they didn’t want as a player, why would they want him as a coach?
