If you are going to come back to the major leagues of posting sites, there's no time to be a rookie, you'll need to hit the ground running, keep up, or get out of the way.
Kidding of course, don't take it personal, its much easier here if you don't.
- vabeachbear
Hahaha like I said, I was more involved in posting "back in the day" with JJ and what not. But I have always been an avid in following the commentary, so I typically know what I get myself into.
Being a NYer Hawks fan with a different mentality than most on here always puts me in a bad spot

If I say, you said something stupid, is that the same as me calling you stupid? You intentionally Cherry picked my sentence to make it appear as if I called you a ten year old. I said the term ‘hater’ is something I’d expect from a ten year old. You used hater as a broad statement and completely meaningless in the context you used it. It appears it was meant to shut up anyone having anything negative to say about Yzerman.
So my point about Yzerman signing Justin Holl, do you agree it’s a questionable signing. And if you do agree, does that make you a ‘hater’? - paulr
Ok, ok, ok Paul, ok. Ten things for me to challenge here but it's not worth furthering the consternation. .... You seem to want a response to the Holl signing. I have not zeroed in on him to have an opinion I'd stand behind except to say the Leaf's games I've watched (always the Canadian feed) his name didn't come up which is usually a good thing for Dmen.
A couple months into the new season and I get a few looks at SY's revamped Wings I'll post an opinion.
But what I've READ is SY was short on RS Dmen and size and answered both those issues with the Holl signing and that with those weaknesses being addressed they can live with his mistakes. |

Several longshots in the group. Like to see Gajan, and one or two of Kantserov/Misiak/Marcel make it eventually. Marcel will be 20 in October. I wonder if he signs a ELC next season and plays at Rockford. - boilermaker100
He has a yr left of Major Junior then Marcel will turn pro. Either Indy or RKF for him.

The TT we traded was an alligator armed floater due a new contract. But we'd seen enough, he was what he was, or not. - rpeters01
He sure was but showed some real flashes. I was in the TT ain't gonna make it camp, I had seen enough soft contact averse play from the kid with all kinds of talent in his feet and hands.
I touted his near record breaking WJC's, up there in pts per game with Forseberg, but gave up and thought he was too soft...... Another one this amateur GM/scout missed on. |

His success in junior was much about how he was talented offensively, aggressive to the middle and how he used his shot, and movement and passes. The scouting world always values the prospects who have established themselves over more than one season as excellent offensive attackers. He was one.
I find Lafrenière an interesting "get" but believe me, I wouldn't go asking, unless the Rangers are actively shopping him, and the Ottawa and Montreal franchises are not active bidders.
I think that Lafrenière has learned to quickly send pucks to teammates after just receiving them.
There is room for his age to grow.
Guys like this (First picks in year's when there isn't talk of generational prospects) can be essential to bumping up a team's scoring. - wiz1901
If forced to give an opinion I think Laffreniere will be an NHLer. Doubtful he'll ever live up to being the 1st overall, which the whole hockey world agreed he should be taken #1.
Looked up some numbers. Kid is a breakout candidate having played 215 NHL games. Nice size at 6ft 1in 195 lbs as a 21 yr old. Never played a shift in he AHL which was probably a mistake. 3 full yrs in the bigs and shows reliability playing 56, 79 and 81 games. Sheltered with between 53 and 59% Ozone starts but averaged .5 pts per game last yr and his 3 yrs he was just under 50% for xG% at 5 on 5 which are damn solid for a 19, 20, 21 yr old.
Eye test showed me a willing player that went to the dirty areas. Kid had 141 hits so he's engaged. Also showed some fine vision finding open teammates.
Went into this post thinking he needed a change of scenery but looking at the numbers he's a better player in the bigs than I thought. His IQ was his selling point and he didn't get stupid all of a sudden. No, not a great skater but not a bad one I think he'll figure it out and at least be a helpful NHLer.
His kind on a line with Bedard would be a fit. A skilled high IQ guy who can score/dish, has size, will do the dirty work retrieving pucks and feeding Bedard and another skilled winger.
Guess the trick is for an NHL evaluator to figure out his ceiling and proper slotting/fits. |

Lets just say Stevie Y brings out opinions, some very very strong opinions. ...... Welcome back to HB. Hope to see you posting. NYR, the East and the Met are very interesting besides witnessing a CHI franchise rebuild. |

According to the scaremongers at NBC, Canada is the blame for this weather. First the smoke and now this. Friendly country my ass. |

What's that they say about a leopard, Ogi? I think we're both old enough to know there's a lotta truth to that.

Adam Boqvist brother just signed with Boston after New Jersey choose not to make a qualifying contract offer.
When I saw the sign, I wondered just curious how he compares to the type forwards we have now and expect to have filling our third and fourth line roles
I am not saying I’d want him in Chicago. I am fine with the collection we have now and I am excited to see some of the draft choices fill the role in the years to come
Nonetheless what is your opinion of Boqvist’s brother? |

I consider you a hockey nut (in a good way); someone who has in-depth knowledge of prospects and is generally very analytical about the game. Now I find out that your unabashed love for Stevie Y is NOT because of his results; but rather about him "acting like a man"? Ya think ya know someone...
- mohel
How many cups has SY won as a player? A no shortcuts look over your shoulder kind of player. He was part of building a powerhouse TB franchise. The results are apparent. ...... What draws me to the guy is the way he's carried himself over a few decades. Head down, grinds it out, maximizes whatever skills he has thru hard work and no shortcuts, never a hot take guy, doesn't snivel, respectful to media. Old school.
Same as that CAR coach. Whether or not folks agree that those qualities are a draw and should be cheered for I'm more than fine with. A player's player, a coach's coach. |

Agreed
If they didn’t want as a player, why would they want him as a coach? - Ogilthorpe2
They? You mean Davidson? Is he that insecure that he doesn't want a three-time Stanley Cup champion and one of the best face-off men in hockey imparting his knowledge to make players better? Sounds like he could be a little paranoid. Is he afraid of ghosts? |

Starting as a young teenager I've worn boots always and every day. Playing all 4 sports organized as a 6 yr old, and with the older fellas around the hood, my ankles have taken a beating and will roll stepping on a pebble the wrong way so I need the support of a nice pair of Knapps. Also punching a time clock for 40 yrs boots are a necessity.
So I am wearing boots but I have a feeling that's not what you meant but that's all my pickled mind can come up with. ....... This is fun though, like the good old days when the Hawks were a powerhouse. |

It’s got nothing to do with security. It’s got everything to do with Bedard being given the reins free and clear. Let him be his own self without deference to his predecessors.
No Hawk fan would have a problem with Toews being a part of this organization moving forward, but being on the ice, or behind the bench is not a good idea IMO…at least for a couple of years. |
