Nice find, Dots!! Thanks for posting...... Love that the Hawks/KD are putting their money where their mouth is when purporting to build and give a seat at the table to an analytics department. - Mr Ricochet
Is this really that new thought? I thought Stanbo was an early supporter of, and firm believer in advanced metrics? Might be new to have a dedicated department, but not so much using all available data. |

Ok since we are.all.bored. what is your most memorable game or situation from the 19 88 Era. So many but her are a few of mine. first Hossa game on the tgiving trip. 19 ot winner st Louis. Hossa ot goal Nashville. That wild comeback down 5 or 6 goals to I think Calgary. Vancouver series. Duck clincher game 19 scores 2 early. |

It’s got nothing to do with security. It’s got everything to do with Bedard being given the reins free and clear. Let him be his own self without deference to his predecessors.
No Hawk fan would have a problem with Toews being a part of this organization moving forward, but being on the ice, or behind the bench is not a good idea IMO…at least for a couple of years. - Ogilthorpe2
I think this is correct. |

How many cups has SY won as a player? A no shortcuts look over your shoulder kind of player. He was part of building a powerhouse TB franchise. The results are apparent. ...... What draws me to the guy is the way he's carried himself over a few decades. Head down, grinds it out, maximizes whatever skills he has thru hard work and no shortcuts, never a hot take guy, doesn't snivel, respectful to media. Old school.
Same as that CAR coach. Whether or not folks agree that those qualities are a draw and should be cheered for I'm more than fine with. A player's player, a coach's coach. - Mr Ricochet stevey y one of my favorite players of all time. Nothing but class hope he does well in Detroit. One thing they are missing is top playmaking center or winger.

Make him part player development or a scout and go from there. |

I don't think analytics is in its infancy but think most think it's in its early stages. Not only are they coming up with new metrics but trying to figure out how to make the information usable, accessible, streamlined and able stored to be communicated throughout an organIzation. ........Not just the Hawks but every franchise to one extent or another.
There is no template, so each analytics department is built from the ground up. I like seeing the Hawks add a pointy headed phD to the analytics team. And I've read these people ain't cheap cuz with their skills they can go to Silicon Valley and make big dough if the NHL, or any sports franchise/league, want to cough up.
Shows an organIzational commitment to doing what it takes, looking for any edge and paying for it. |

Indeed, it was used by Stan. Only major difference is that KD is building a bigger team for analytics (among other communication/connectivity infrastructure), and they are publicly promoting it more.
They just rolled out a team app that captures virtually everything about a player.

The triple overtime playoff game in Anaheim, cuz I was there and at the end of the ice where Kruger scored (hell yeah, I'm gonna brag ). One of the few things I miss about CA - super easy to get reasonable Blackhawks tickets.
The Detroit series in 2009. You could see the potential coming out, but they just needed that extra push to get over the top.
I know the season turned on its head almost immediately after, but the 2017 season opener where they just plastered PIT 10-1. |

They? You mean Davidson? Is he that insecure that he doesn't want a three-time Stanley Cup champion and one of the best face-off men in hockey imparting his knowledge to make players better? Sounds like he could be a little paranoid. Is he afraid of ghosts? - bjphawkfan
Insecure???
I think the one person you can be assured that isn't insecure is KD.
Is he afraid of ghosts, ya to certain extent, the ghost of the past that he has been on a mission to change.
With everything that happened with that era, they had to change. You can't move on if the people who were around then are still around.
He got the job 2 years ago, and has managed clear everyone out, start the rebuild, get a generational talent.
No one has talked much about the past in the last 3 or 4 months, he's doing his job. Of the many things he had to do, this was probably job 1 from his bosses.

Wait a second, you can't take a hypothetical situation (Toews being brought back in any capacity) which KD has not even commented on and then assign paranoia as reasoning for which he would not want said situation.
Well, I mean, you can... but its neither logical or a good faith argument. |

He has had some nice first round picks with the Wings, but with the Lightning not so much, but he hit on some gems in the later rounds for sure.
I do believe if you don't have the support from whoever runs the actual team it will be difficult to be a Stanley Cup team. Since Ilitch has passed both his teams Red Wings and Tigers have gotten worse and became irrelevant.
Added even the Yankees miss Steinbrenner. Also the last 3 teams were over the cap that won the SC. |

I honestly thought that was 1988 er -- and wow, that's eclectic ... um Rick Vaive scoring 40 ...and 3x 40 goal scorers on the team - yet, they were still blah -and Murdoch got dropped for Mike Keenan in a heartbeart... yeh- you know you commit -then you sorta have to follow through with your check ....

Oh please. Toews still hasn't made public whether he wants to continue playing or not.
This is all on Johnny. When he decides what he wants to do, play or retire, then decisions can be made.
In the mean time, life moves on and a new Hawks' core begins to be assembled.

All I am saying is you bring in people who can impart knowledge. I know he hasn't said what he is going to do and until he does it is a moot point. Wouldn't Savard have benefitted from Stan's knowledge of the game? They have ambassadors from past teams do they not? Why wouldn't you want to bring in people to make your players better? You are putting a lot of weight on an 18-year old's shoulders. Anyway, I just asked the question. It is nice to see that we can debate something without critisism. |

Ultimately, I think it would come down to the details. For things like dealing with leadership, pressure, maybe some game situations, I think it could have some benefit, but the Hawks may just want to give him a solid foundation, and let him grow into the position like Kane/Toews/Keith and Seabrook did.

There could be some news on the Team Canada investigation soon. A couple of players currently playing could be implicated. We have Raddysh and Katchouk from that team. Other names include Batherson, Hart, and the guy who left the league to play overseas suspiciously… Formenton. |

why didnt i think of that....17 seconds is almost as surreal as me pulling up NHL draft getting home from the office and seeing that Chicago won the Bedard draft - both surreal still |

The first game of that series was incredible, the double deflection in the 3rd OT to win it. It all came down to Bickell with a great check along the boards and all it took was the dman losing his glove, went to pick it up and was out of position for the game winning goal.
Crawford should of really won the Conn Smythe that year. |

Stanbos inputs built a small but slow team. I hope KD has better variables. |
