Be interesting to see this list in few years when its more complete. Have to say that's pretty impressive.
Other than Hagel, Cat, and the potential of Dach, they didn't give away much. Not counting that Kane and Toews both tied their hands from getting a better return makes the list a bit more impressive
Evan Stanbow had some pretty good deals in there

I seem to remember that Mexico dropped some bread crumbs back then which pointed into that direction. |

Good catch. .... Enough "smaller" goalies play well at high levels the league will stop automatically dismissing them cuz they're only 5ft 11in or 6ft tall.
That said, gimme a Hrabel at 6ft 6in that moves like a 6 footer. |

It seems like with goalies it is more heavily weighted to what’s between the ears rather than ability. Obviously you need some minimum level of athleticism and agility, but the mental side seems much more important for that position. I don’t have much experience here, but my cousin played up to the college level and he implied as much |

Read many rankings pages that had Hrabel as the #1 goalie, I was listening to prospects radio show on NHL Sirius, and those guys or the one the considered the goalie "expert" of the group definitely had Gajan ahead of Hrabel.
I was all for picking Hrabel, but remember even though Wiz had Hrabel going a few picks earlier, he had the Hawks taking Gajan with #35 for a while.
Be interesting to watch them grow up and see who turns out best.
I only ever saw them play in the world jrs, Hrabel against the US, Gajan against Canada, they were both lights out, though will say that Hrabel seemed to tire in the 3rd.
Hopefully Commesso takes the net for a decade and never gives it up.

More interesting that Buffalo is going to ride or die with Levi and his 7 games of NHL experience going into what should be a make or break season for Adams.
His failure to make any moves of significance at the TDL for a team on the verge of making the playoffs for the first time in 12 years was baffling.
Nor has he done much this summer. He has drafted well and got some guys on good contracts but he seems like Chevy in the Peg. Afraid to make a big move. Prospects are assets. Hopefully KD can identify which ones are expendable when the time comes. |

Agreed, It was bold of KD to move out ADB and Dach and to stockpile draft picks. And he seems to have drafted well. Let’s see if he avoids mimicking Chevy in not being afraid of making moves. Or making the mistakes Dubas made in a top heavy lineup and completely ignoring other parts (defense). Or getting into cap hell before the team is even competitive like Vancouver. Lots of land mines out there but KD has seen the them, he knows what and where they are. Let’s see if he can do it right. |

I would have agreed on Hrabel over until the series of games when he went off the rails with tone soft unnecessary movements and shooter challenges, he just suddenly frightens due as a future 'tender.
Just read some genius decide Comesso was the future before playing an NHL game.

Hopefully this kid, Nick Lardis, can find his way onto the Hawk roster one day. He’s got serious speed and a pretty decent shot.

Folks look at goalies as aliens, even teammates, cuz so few played the position. Why, cuz you're trying to stop a freak of nature like McDavid and shots moving 100 MPH. Simply said, it's the greatest position in all of sport.
No doubt, like a golfer with the yipes on the putting green it can get deep into your head. Yogi was right when he said 50% of the game is 1/2 mental and goaltending especially so. |

For a smaller guy, he spends a lot of time between the circles attacking the slot. The power move on that last goal was impressive as well. |

BM, you are such an asset to this site. Great work here!! ..... IMO makes a StanBow foe look at him a bit differently after looking at some of his moves. When you revisit this 5-6-7 yrs from now I think of all these moves drafting Kaiser and Del Mastro will be among the best of Stan's and KD's. |

I have to defer to the pros who study these kids for a couple yrs, talk to their coaches, teammates, zamboni drivers, billits but I Just can't believe the kid fell to rd 3.
I see you're looking at YouTube and found some new stuff on Lardis. Thanks for posting and if you find more on Hawk prospects please post.
I love the shift by shifts to see some warts. I'll repost one of Lardis. https://www.youtube.com/w...channel=ThePuckEnthusiast |

I did not see one predraft prognosticator that had Gajan ahead of Hrabel. And Wiz had the Hawks taking Gajun only cuz Hrabal was off the board already.
Started going to USHL games in 05/06. Saw all off the NTDP goalies live. Otteinger, Knight, Commeso, Campbell (live at the WJC in BUFF), Holl, all of them, and others like Vladar v Schmid in the USHL Finals.
Took me a bit to come to the conclusion and post at different sites, including here, months before the draft, Hrabel is the best goalie prospect I've ever seen come out of the USHL in my 15 yrs following!
Never saw a kid at 6ft 6in move like a 6 footer. Never saw a kid that technical with excellent athleticism to fall back on for broken plays or bad rebounds allowed. Kid has everything, everything, you want in a goalie prospect. Everything.
Gajun may end up an NHL #1 but in 20 yrs IMO Hrabal will have been the better NHL goalie and it might not be close. |

Have you ever seen a top goalie prospect go off the rails/melt down so close to the draft as Askarov did in the WJC? The kid still went #11 to NSH!

KD has yet to finish the first chapter of a 1,000 page novel. Indeed, land mine after land mine awaits and yes KD has seen all of them in his journey to becoming a GM. But no situation is the same and all are unique in their own way.
Lots of dilemmas to solve along the way but so far so good IMO..... All decision makers make mistakes but IMO the best identify them and fix them instead of doubling down. Hope KD is one of those.
NHL GMing ain't easy, man.

He's darter. Identifies open ice/dangerous areas and gets to them on time. Doesn't hang around the dirty areas but gets to them to make himself dangerous.
