Might've been in the Athletic and came from Powers but last thing I saw on him described him as a long shot for the NHL
- HawkintheD

He only played two playoff games with Rockford this past postseason, and appears to be either fourth or fifth among the five defenders under contract but not on the Hawks roster. Age 22 now. What's the path for him here, anyone?

I remember as a kid taking my straight Hespeler and getting my Dad to take a torch to it and making a ‘warp’. I could make pucks fly everywhere …. But where I wanted.
- paulr

I had a Hespeler Blue Flash stick that cost $1.50 and I used it all winter for both ice hockey and road hockey. The Green Flash went for $2.00 but I couldn't afford that.

What is now Cambridge, Ontario used to be the small towns of Hespeler, Preston and Galt. Lots of great wooden furniture used to be produced there. Everything gone now including the Hespeler Wooden Stick Co.

However all is not lost Paul - you can still get yourself a wooden stick to work on your shot. The company moved to Brantford and became Roustan Hockey. They make wooden sticks under contract for Canadian Tire.

So get yourself into a Canadian Tire store, buy a Canadian made wood stick and start working on that feeble shot of yours.

Looks like Bedard will make over 13M on his contract if he meets all the goals in it.

He needs to fill out for sure but in the vids i watched he plays fast. The puck isn't on his stick for long whether shooting of passing.
- Elbows15

I just re-watched the CHL prospects game from this 2023 class and as said, Landis needs little time to decide and pass the puck to a teammate in the scoring area for a goal.
He wasn't even asked to the dance until injures hit and he was added.
They did some testing there.
Nick Lardis (5-10, 165; No. 96) finished among the top five in seven of 10 on-ice categories which allowed players the opportunity to showcase their individual strengths while gauging their fitness and skill levels among their peers for NHL management and scouts.

The left wing for Hamilton (Ontario Hockey League), who was Central Scouting's lowest-ranked skater in the game, placed first in weave agility with puck and reaction, and second in transition ability with puck.

My playing days are behind me. I’m sure my grandson would have a good laugh at a quaint ancient wooden stick.

Louis Crevier is an enormous human. I have no idea how good he is but obviously by looking at last years stats offense isn’t his forte, although he put up a few points in junior. He isn’t overly physical judging by his penalty minutes. Maybe someone who saw him in Rockford can tell us how he plays defensively.

:J Yep - I still have 1 Sher Wood Featherlite --- the only one I didn't break -those sticks were awesome. My first one was some super light Koho - and had some Titan somethings - they were like a basic model. Sherwood's were the best Got an Easton aluminum one (ugly colours -green and black) -was paranoid about breaking off the blade- as I had no extras nor really a good idea how to replace it --seemed like to big of a pain in the proverbial.

I always loved seeing Australians that were just starting out in hockey that had to get multi $100 composite sticks -and they hadn't a clue how to even shoot... it's the look for some of them. Of course fanning on shots all of the time , apparently that sort of doesn't matter.

Meanwhile, I have kept a few A$50 sticks -because... well who cares if I snap one -it's actually an achievement. Mainly because I'm old... too old to care.

The key for Crevier is to show continued improvement. He transitioned to AHL from Quebec junior and was descent enough to start pro career as a regular. His forte is playing defense and he sometimes will be nasty. He had the Chara like wingspan too. His shot is descent so he gets a few goals. Overall he isn’t lacking any way but just needs to get dominant and some meanness would help. This is your classic underdog who actually has come from being a skinny tall dman into possible NHL prospect. He skates well for a big guy, is mobile enough so if he improves incrementally I project KD will keep tabs on him. Might become a solid NHL dman with some good qualities.

Sherwoods and Louisvilles were my sticks of choice. Never used aluminum or composite. The first aluminum sticks had an aluminum shaft and you inserted wood blades into the shaft, kind of hokey.

About 10 or 12 years ago the kids on my street were out playing road hockey as I was cleaning out the garage. I called them over and gave them some old sticks I had. One of the kids held it up and in complete disbelief said ‘it’s made of wood!’.

No idea if you’re right about him being good defensively but I highly doubt he’s nasty. In junior he had a high of 18 penalty minutes and last year at Rockford he had 14. I can’t find anywhere that he’s ever had a fight and some YouTube clips I saw showed him as being pretty passive. He also looks like he struggles with his skating. Because he’s huge he’ll get every last opportunity to prove himself but I’m thinking he just an enormous lavender sniffer.

Capfriendly recently put Roos, Kaiser and Phillips with the big club, i don't think it's a roster move considering Vlasic and Reichel are still in the A

The Athletic released their top 50 drafted skater prospects today (top 10 goalies will be released tomorrow). The Hawks have 5 on the list, which is expected given the number of draft picks they've had over the past 2 years.

1. Bedard (shocker)
17. Moore (I still think he could be one the the steals of the 2023 draft)
22. Korchinski
29. Reichel
50. Nazar

- DarthKane

I think Nazar is a better prospect than Korchinski. Reichel, too. Provided he stays healthy.

Is he NHL ready this year?
- LAHawk

Looking like it isn't going to matter. They have been blowing smoke up our asses about him for a few weeks now. Could be KD's first misstep keeping him with the big club.

What is he going to gain by getting his brains beat in this season?

In general, I agree, but if he proves to the coaches that he has the chops to stick and succeed in the league, do you still hold the same position?
- Chunk

Let's not worry yet about Korchinski making the club this year. He has to come through that Tom Kurver prospect tourney unscathed first..

Stosh could really handle a golf club too. And he was one of the first NHL players to use a curved stick blade.
- RickJ

Yeah, was a golf pro at one the local courses for years.

Pretty sure he and Hull were the first to use them. Happened purely by accident too. Stosh broke his stick in practice and in frustration hammered the puck and it did some funky stuff. They then proceeded to go bend some blades on their sticks and knew they had something to strike absolute fear into the hearts of most goalies.

Closer to 20M I think if he makes all the bonus thresholds.

1M per year for the "A" level bonuses.
2.5M per year from the league for making a "B" level objective.
And a matching 2.5M from Chicago for making a "B" level objective.
All atop his yearly 950K regular salary.

That's good info. Thanks for posting it.

I read somewhere else that the league pays a 2.5M "B" bonus which does not count against the cap. And then the club can opt to match that "B" bonus, and if awarded, that does counts against the cap.

Regardless to say, the Hawks are doing everything they can to keep Bedard happy and maximize his income.

This upcoming season I will see Crevier I in person and on a television feed, so I expect to get a better read on his aggressiveness. From what I have read he is not naturally borane but can upon occassiion play rough. His skating is actually pretty good and he has a descent slapshot. The Blackhawks did not hesitate signing him to turn or I and determined that he could handle the AHL pace as a first year pro. But as I said the key is continued improvement
