Please, not the Wings. Send him to Calgary where he will not re-sign and only play 1 yr and be an FA!

Calgary, where several high profile players have left, or expressed an interest in leaving are going to trade for a guy who's reportedly not interested in signing long term in Canada?

Seems likely.

Him signing in Calgary past this year is less likely than him signing in Ottawa.

This is bull poop...he wants to sign and play in the states.

Can't see DeBrincat being part of any trade talks with Calgary. I suspect it may be trades for other players ... Ottawa checking out the asking price of several of the Calgary players.

Yes, because the Flames have been able to retain their LW's. DeBrincat has played his last game in Canada. Send the hobbit back to the shire

This isn't actually a thing. People are trying to turn it into a way bigger deal than it is.

I dont know why Calgary is avoiding the rebuild. Both they and WPG need to face reality and do what needs to be done.

Trade off all the guys that wont resign...go 100% in the tank for 3 years...grab all the young studs in the draft...and build a team of kids under teams control as per the CBA

Theres no shame in this...see Toronto, Buffalo, Philly, Chicago, Anaheim.

Pitts and Washington soon....

Every 10-12 years a team just has to gut it and start over. CGY and WPG on on the clock

This is highly unlikely for 2 reason ...first you have Debrincat who's made it clear he wants to play in the US... Second , any package for him would almost have to include Hanifin...who also has said he will only resign with a US team ..

There's really no reason not to go for it this year. They still have a team to compete for a Cup. So many players had awful years last year, and the Flames still would have been in contention for the division if Markstrom had been a top-ten goalie again. Markstrom, Huberdeau, and Kadri all probably bounce back. They also have a bunch of important pieces in contract years, which tends to motivate professional athletes more than anything else.

If Markstrom, Huberdeau, and Kadri return to even their career averages, the UFAs play their asses off to secure the next contract, and someone like Pelletier steps up and contributes, the Flames are as good as anyone in the West. If we get second-half Weegar again and Kylington can do what he did two years again, the Flames have a top 2 or 3 defence in the league. If they're bad again, just trade everyone at the deadline and start the rebuild next year.

The part about people wanting to leave Calgary or about DeBrincat not wanting sign long term in Canada as has been reported? Agreed that ADB is strictly off of reports, so I have no hard evidence of that.

If it's the former, I'd point to Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Toffoli, and now reportedly, Hanifin. If this was strictly about Sutter, then please explain Toffoli and Hanifin now that he's gone. There are even reports that Lindholm may not re-sign or even Backlund who's been here since Ed Stelmach was premier. Something has to be going on in YYC.

This works sometimes. Risky tho. You could wind up like Buffalo, missing the playoffs for 45 straight years

By all accounts, Gaudreau wanted to stay, but his wife didn't. Gaudreau had even verbally committed to re-signing, but the day before the draft, he went for a drive with his wife, and she convinced him it was time to move on. Tkachuk likely would've stayed if Gaudreau had resigned. Toffoli told the Flames after last season that he wanted to stay and wanted an extension. He wasn't very high on their list of priorities so he didn't want to stick around. The Flames were a disaster last year, rookie coach, rookie GM, no idea if the team's any good, so why would Lindholm and Backlund re-sign now? If the Flames are bad again, yeah, they'll want out. If the Flames are back to being good, they probably stick around. It can be tricky getting players to come to Calgary. It's not that hard getting them to stay.

I don't think there's necessarily a problem in the room. I just think they haven't had a locker room leader since Iginla.

You keep telling yourself what you need/want to hear. Rumor I heard floating is Gaudreau was content to stay until his "bro" Monahan got traded. Tkachuk may have considered staying if he was given the C going into the season. The team felt it was right for someone to earn it and not give it to anyone with only 1-2 years left on their deals.

As for this year's batch of malcontents, I'm not sure. But the recent Lucic interview shed some light into it. Too cold of a city with nothing else going on, and on old outdated arena. At least in Toronto, they have MLB/NBA, Vancouver isn't as cold, Edmonton has the McDavid factor (his words paraphrased not mine), Montreal has the French factor for players of quebecois decent. And all those cities have up to date, state of the art arena's. Calgary is an out of date market with the dome, with not much else happening culture-wise, the city is not a draw. He said the fans are great, but the rest lacks.Much like his foot-speed the last 5 years.

Monahan was traded well after Gaudreau left.

Yeah Ottawa would definitely insist on a LHD coming back. Especially one needing a large extension soon. Well thought out.

It was also well known he would not be returning to the flames the next season. The Flames were looking to shed him at any cost.
