I got it. These goalies that were completely unheralded and really hadn't shown anything before their cup runs, they were set up for success because of their age. Hell, they weren't even "real goalies". They were lottery tickets. They were their team's UPL and Comrie, just older.

So you'd pay the ridiculous price for Saros or Helly? And since when is Carter Hart a real goalie?

- Slump Buster

so you just gloss over the teams they played for? 21 year old goalies straight out of College where they play what 30-40 games including playoffs is expected to play 40-50 in the NHL..

Carter hart is better then UPL

I’m not sure if you’re being sarcastic but I’ve maintained this since last year so I’m not moving any goalposts here

Literally the only goalie since 2008 to have 0 AHL time or overseas time in a professional men’s league to be named an NHL starter as a rookie and play 50* games is Steve Mason

Ryan Miller played almost 100 AHL games and then was a backup first

Lundqvist played in the SHL for 3 years before being a rookie at 24

Like what we’d be asking Levi to do is just not something NHL teams do

- sbroads24

Again, how many goalies have Levi's pedigree? Have you ever seen a kid more ready to be an NHL goalie? This isn't the same thing as bringing in an 18 year old and asking him to be the savior. Lets say we did go out and get a guy like Korpisalo. I'd still want Levi to start 45 - 55 games for us. He has played that many before and it isn't an excessive number.

Carter Hart isn't 2 first round draft choices better than UPL or any other warm body that you can find out there. That's why he is still a Flyer.

So just following your logic... what should Levi's path be? Should we send him down to Roch because most other goalies started there? What if he starts here and outplays the "real goalie" - should we limit him to 30 games because that is what others did?

You're not wrong - if you get a hot goalie, any team can win. And you do have to make it to win, obviously. But the same logic applies to scoring a goal. Sure, you can't score if you don't shoot. But there is a reason why teams just don't start shooting from center ice. Similarly, there is a reason that every team doesn't sell everything in order to make the playoffs every year.

How about making A move when your team is on the precipice of making the playoffs for the first time in over a decade? No? Too much? And no, I absolutely do not count depth players as making a move.

He performed well on a miserable team this year. The Sabres would be lucky to have him

I still think Hart is a Flyer because of the investigation that is wrapping up soon.

They just signed Kolosov who will be in the orgianzation next year, and if their goal is to maximize their assets while tanking for Celebrini, moving Hart helps in both areas

Probably.

But the other two guys suck and Adams has painted himself in this corner, so Levi it is.

Carter Hart did
Spencer Knight did.

Again 40 games against college kids who 90% won’t play hockey after college and 40 games against the top 1% in the world are drastically different things.

Not to mention each team will have a top pro scouting department and players watching tape tearing apart Levi’s every move to try and find his weaknesses.

The difference in competition can not be stated enough.

Carter Hart and Spencer Knight were can’t miss goalie prospects. Hence draft position. One of them was talked about being the next Carey Price….

Guys who didn’t need time and could start right away.

And Jeremy Swayman didn't. yet he stepped right in. You can either cut it or you can't.

Better yet, the same group that doesn't want him to start 50 seems to be ok with him starting 30. I haven't heard one person say he should be in Roch. Why is that? Why are those extra 20 games magical?

Except his past actions shown he is incredibly risk averse and utterly unwilling to make a move of significance.

Hart was awesome out of the gate.

Had a rough second campaign.

He was league average playing on that crappy Flyer team last year and is still young.

Minimum 2 years team control, Flyers could also use a warm body on the back end and the Sabres have d-men coming out of the ying Yang.

Makes too much sense to me, time will tell

I get what you are saying, but I don't think they are that different. They want multiple quality assets for him, and I just don't see him as a made man in this league. Better than UPL? Yeah, probably so when all is said and done. He was good at times last year after having been pretty bad for a while.

No, he had a plan and worked it pretty well. The plan was to let the kids play and not to see how good he could make the team in any given year. That changes this year.

- Wetbandit1

That's what I mean. The Sabres were asking for 4 "first round assets" for Eichel and settled for 3 plus a second rounder in exchange for Eichel and a 3rd.

So UPL and Ostlund is very similar to the ultimate outcome of the Eichel trade

Swayman was not asked to carry the load as a 21 year old rookie.

And fwiw he has played like 20 AHL games.

Again, what you’re implying Levi can do is something that isn’t asked of goalies.
