I thought a staff shakeup was in order. Gerbe said they going to. If Peca wanted the job, it was an easy move. That reasoning is hard to dismiss.

The team improved greatly, why a "staff shakeup "?

Everything finally is looking great, let's clean house.

Excellent post

Some fans havent learned, but management seems to have learned a lesson .

- Boss34

We think they have learned. We won’t really know till we can look back and make that decision

Why try to improve when you can just stay the same?

Is that a serious question?

Great rants today

"The happy little playpen here in Buffalo needed some change

The thought of bringing back Jost, there's other players out there that fit the bill that are super hungry. Much bigger, much better. I think you could have found a different player for the 4th line than Girgensons. Paying him 2.5m is f'ing ludicrous."

- Lunaion

Girgensons, Fast, and Hathaway all got $2.4-.$2.5M AAV. The latter two got an additional year of term.

How that’s ludicrous is beyond me when all three of them have the same on ice impacts.

Whether it was Girgensons or not, that’s the going rate for a bottom 6 shutdown winger

I’m just being honest.

Noah Cates for $2.6M today.

That’s market price for a shutdown winger whether you are a Girgensons fan or not.

His replacement would cost just as much

so you just gloss over the teams they played for? 21 year old goalies straight out of College where they play what 30-40 games including playoffs is expected to play 40-50 in the NHL..

Carter hart is better then UPL

comrie and cal petersen had better numbers the last 3 years vs hart

If you look at 2.5m players, you're going to find 2.5m comparisons. If you look at 1m players, you'll find 1m comparisons.

Fast has 55 more points in 200 more minutes in 5 more games and that's counting the year of 1C Girgensons

Also, "shutdown" Girgensons has zero Selke votes in his career. At least Fast has a few.

Why cant you acknowledge the improvements?

They just upgraded 2 defenseman, one with a stanley cup ring.

Its foolish to think a conservative management group is going to make splash moves .

Peca and Weber leaving doesn't bother you at all?

Right, and if the Selke award was voted on by the analytics community then Girgensons would have received several Selke votes.

But because the Mike Harrington’s and Paul Hamilton’s of the world didn’t have him on their ballot then I guess were the idiots right ?

I’m all for improving the roster.

But pretending that Girgensons is an issue on your 4th line is the euqivalent of complaining about having Jeff Skinner on your first line.

We’re incessantly bit$&ing on here about things that aren’t problems.

Yes and Hathaway also brings 200 hits a year and won't skate away or fall over the Blueline on the way there. They have different impacts.

If you can improve on any facet of your game or team no matter if it's your top line to your 4th line why wouldn't you try. It becomes a problem when you won't move away from a player and there's better version's available. And don't want to hear leadership. Okposo,Johnson, Tuch should have that covered

“Best relative xGA/60 last 2 seasons (Via NST)

1) Girgensons (-0.61)
2) Bergeron (-0.52)
3) Perry (-0.49)
4) Reinhart (-0.44)
5) Martin (-0.38)
6) Okposo (-0.37)

Putting up strong defensive numbers in a high octane system means you are doing something right individually.

Could you do better than Girgensons and Okposo ? Sure.

They are not problems though
